We were very, very disappointed with this hotel. My wife and I were looking forward to ending our month-long trip on a high note, and chose the Bangkok Sofitel as the place to do that. Unfortunately, the hotel did not deliver. The check-in was smooth, and the room was OK, but after going out and returning later that evening, we found that the A/C did not work. Nothing was done to rectify this. "Guest Relations" did not answer their phone line, and I tried 4 times. Our waiter at the Thai restaurant was patronizing, snide and rude. The worst was to greet us the next morning. Our rate included breakfast, and we were told upon check-in that even though we had a very early flight and had to leave well before the breakfast buffet was open, if we presented our breakfast coupons at the restaurant we would be served coffee, tea and something to eat. Upon arriving at the restaurant at 4 a.m. we were rudely told that breakfast was not available until 6 and we were refused service of any kind. We left and were then assisted by perhaps the least service-oriented staff member of all, the bell hop. He was extremely rude, and acted put out for us having interrupted him from his task of folding newspapers for delivery. He rolled his eyes and sighed heavily when we asked him to call for a taxi.
Other complaint: the pool closes way too early (7 pm). All told, the Sofitel Central Plaza Hotel in Bangkok is the last hotel I would stay in again. This establishment gives an extremely bad tarnish to a hotel name that is supposed to stand for quality and luxury. We are very sorry we chose it, and would have spent a little more and stayed closer to the hotel had we known it was going to be this bad. I can't even give this hotel one smile, because we've had better rooms and service at hotels half the price.
