Good location for shopping
We have stayed at the Bangkok Palace Hotel 5 or 6 times over the last 9 years. The rooms are clean and spacious and the location is ideal for shopping. There is a great little bar/restaurant called Sweet Home just down the road and the Seven - 11 is on the corner. We will go back to this hotel on our next stopover in Bangkok.

Atrocious attitude from the Night Manager
I was rudely shocked by the service and attitude provided by the Night Manager (Mr. Montre K) when I went back to the hotel at 1am on 27-May-2011. As usual, I would go to the reception to request for my room key (since I had placed it in the keydrop whenever I left the hotel). To my surprise, the Night Manager told me that my room key is not at the reception. I immediately told him to check again as I was extremely sure that I left it at the reception, he did a very sloppy re-check and told me that it was not at the reception. He even questioned me, asking me why I was so sure I left it at the reception, his tone was extremely cocky and arrogant and I found that very rude and ridiculous to question a hotel guest in this manner. He rebutted me by saying that the guests 'always does this' and that I am just another one of them. He then got me to sign a form to request the hotel to unlock my room and arrogantly informed me that I had to pay 500baht for a lost room key. After the hotel staff unlocked my room, I did another check in my room hoping to find the 'lost' key but to no avail. I was really puzzled at this point of my time, if my key was not at the reception, not in my room and not with me, where could it be? Hence, I decided to go down to the reception again to clarify the matter and requested for them to check the security cameras to prove that I did drop the room key into the keydrop. Low and behold, when I was approaching the reception, a hotel staff at the reception held up my room key. I was extremely furious and I called for the Night Manager to come out. He told me that my room key was actually in a wrong box (an error made by the hotel), that was why they could not find my key initially. I was extremely frustrated and furious with the 'ordeal' that I had to go through after a long and tired night out. Not only did the Night Manager made a mistake and wrongly accused me, his attitude towards me was downright atrocious. This hotel, not recommended!

Good value for money but two points of attention:
1; The matress was very bad; I could feel the springs when laying on bed
1; Although the sheets where clean, there where a lot of stains on it a few times

Overall a very nice hotel and good value - but there were some bugs in our room on multiple days. We tried to extend our reservation at the front desk, but they would not honor our online rate - so we just went back online and rebooked at the lower rate. They did not speak too much English either, but were all very pleasant.

I've been using the Bangkok Hotel as...
I've been using the Bangkok Hotel as my first hotel when arriving in Thailand because it is conveniently located near Pratunam and massage shops (good when you are just off a 12 hours flight!). Moreover, they usually let you get into your room as soon as you arrive in the morning (not waiting until 2pm). However, the hotel is getting old. Rooms are large but would need new paintings and should be modernized. What made me decide no to come again is that we found 2 bugs coming into our room on the second day. Despite th fact that the people quickly responded and provided us with antibug sprays, it is something I really cannot pass upon.

It's not what i thought it was. the hotel location is good as it is within walking distance from pathonam market but the walk way leading to main street is really dirty, the hotel is hidden at the back of the main road. the staff are generally helpful but i remember once i asked for Manager and he was less helpful than his staff. The best i could say that our stay was satisfactory
