This place is ok if you want...
This place is ok if you want a cheap private room with en suite bath w/in walking distance the Grand Palace/ National Museum/ Sanam Luang/ Khao San area. Although reasonably clean, the hotel is very old and the characterless rooms reflect their age. The beds are cheap, as are the linens. Multiple poor coatings of white paint over absolutely everything, even the furniture, try to disguise age and disrepair. The bathrooms are very basic, but my shower had excellent water pressure.
The breakfast buffet is the bare minimum and simply bad; I don't know what other reviewers are saying when they recommend it. I ate several times in the restaurant and not once had a good meal. It is also way overpriced for what you get. There is nothing in the immediate vicinity of the hotel for other eating options, must walk to khao san or thammasat/grand palace for this.
The tiny pool desperately needs to be cleaned. Frightening that people swam in the blue-green water. The poolside furniture is rickety and covered w mould.
For around this price, there are better options if you can stay elsewhere in Bangkok: try the Manohra on Silom or the Rex on Sukhumvit. These both suck slightly less in their own way, but hey, you get what you pay for!
