This place is ok if you want...
This place is ok if you want a cheap private room with en suite bath w/in walking distance the Grand Palace/ National Museum/ Sanam Luang/ Khao San area. Although reasonably clean, the hotel is very old and the characterless rooms reflect their age. The beds are cheap, as are the linens. Multiple poor coatings of white paint over absolutely everything, even the furniture, try to disguise age and disrepair. The bathrooms are very basic, but my shower had excellent water pressure. The breakfast buffet is the bare minimum and simply bad; I don't know what other reviewers are saying when they recommend it. I ate several times in the restaurant and not once had a good meal. It is also way overpriced for what you get. There is nothing in the immediate vicinity of the hotel for other eating options, must walk to khao san or thammasat/grand palace for this. The tiny pool desperately needs to be cleaned. Frightening that people swam in the blue-green water. The poolside furniture is rickety and covered w mould. For around this price, there are better options if you can stay elsewhere in Bangkok: try the Manohra on Silom or the Rex on Sukhumvit. These both suck slightly less in their own way, but hey, you get what you pay for!

Rooms look a bit tired but are spacious. Pool looks good (didn't try it). The breakfast is excellent - reason alone to stay. Hotel is on the airport bus route which is handy.

Our stay was very good, the maids were very good, the only problems was we found roaches in our room, and the breakfast was always cold. Other than that the staff was very helpful, and kind, We would stay again at the Royal Hotel.

This hotel is, thaks to its location...
This hotel is, thaks to its location a realy good deal. in 3 minutes walk you are at kao san road, in 10 minutes walk you can reach grand palace and wat po and the river for water taxi. Rooms are clean, bathroom also clean, swimming pool mostly crowded, so just better catch a cheap flight to the south and enjoy the see :) Stuff was helpfull, allowed us late check out with no charges. One advice - do not take hotel taxi - just walk outside and catch yourself a taximeter taxi - you can get for example to chatuchack for 70 THB or so. Also, taxi to the airport - at hotel they ask 800 THB. Catch one taximeter taxi and you get the same ride for 300-400 THB including motorway fares (100 THB).

We stayed in this hotel for 3...
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights before returning back home. Although the reception staff is not the most friendly, but fast efficient we have liked it there. Our room was very big, so was the bathroom. The only drawback was that there was no shower curtain and each time you take a shower you spill water all over. Overall we must say that this hotel is good value for money and was just perfect for us. The breakfast buffet is vast and filling and the hotel is just a short stroll away from Khao san street.
