The hotel was good value for the money. Room was clean, and silent. Location is good if want to stay near Khaosan road area, but far away from skytrain.

Very close to the Golden Palace and the Wats. Backpacker heaven. Hardy breakfast. The staff was wonderful in allowing us to stay past our check-out when one of our party got ill.

After being told to go to this hotel from other travellers and reading positive reviews, I found the Royal to be unimpressive. The room was stinky, the carpet filthy, the bed was bug ridden and the bedspreads were replete with ciggarette burns. The breakfast was the worst of any hotel we stayed at in Thailand. To top it off the taxi booth provided by the hotel in the lobby seeks to overcharge guests with fixed rates double (if not tripple) what you would pay using a regular taxi metre. This is a shame given that the hotel caters to budget travellers. It is however a nice old building that would great if completely renovated in the future. Until then stay away.

a venerable older hotel. Staff was very courteous. Breakfast was fantastic. Rooms average size, nothing outstanding. Good location, hear the Grand Palace. Internet service was expensive.

On the whole good and, most importantly, clean. However, I was dissappointed to get a room without any windows but I don't think this is the norm. It doesn't make for a very pleasenat atmosphere especially when you're trying to get over jet lag. Other than that though it was good value for travelling.

We have a pleasent stay with very good service from the room-cleaners and also good service in the reception. The only thing that was less good was the breakfast our second day, we have breakfast in the coffee-bar and the service was not so good.

I travelled here in November '06, this hotel was perfect for myself and my girlfriend, it was clean & tidy, the staff were nice and very helpfull, and the rate for the room was very good! The best thing about the Royal Hotel was its location, perfect for people travelling to Bangkok for the first time, as it only a 5 minute walk from the Koh San Road, which was brilliant! Also attractions like the Grand Palace(15mins) and Wat Po (reclining buddha(30mins)) are in easy walking distance! It was great being so close to the Koh San Road for eating and drinking, but also far enough away not to be noisey, we are planning to stay here again next year!!!

Bathroom: Room for improvement on the design of the bathroom. By drawing the curtain at the bathtub; in order to prevent water from splashing/spilling, it didn't really help; resulting having water on the floor; causing drop in comfort level. This is a big turn-off. Air-con: Air-conditioning is up to expectation. Bed: Bed is bug-free. Odour-free but still suggest placing some dry flowers (with aromatic effect) in the room. Curtains: Faces difficulty in drawing the curtains. Have to use force to pull. Should have pulley design in place. TV programme: Equipped with ESPN sports channel. Breakfast: Must improve on this area. Lack of variety. Should review the skill of the chefs. Walking distance to Grand Palace (20 mins) & National Museum (10 mins).
