Most people are staying at the White Orchid hotel because they only come back to sleep! Don't expect much from the rooms - the air-conds made so much noise, I had to turn it off to get some sleep.
The location is very good for exploring the chinatown area, however. There are many interesting sights around the yaowarat and charoen krung roads. A good dim sum place is very close by (but easy to miss). Turn to your right as you exit the hotel and walk along the street until you come to the first turn into a narrow street to your right. There are many nice eating shops hidden away here! Take care that traffic becomes horrible as early as 10am in front of the hotel, so you might want to walk a couple of blocks to less hectic roads and get a cab there to go to your next destination.
