For your budget-minded clients, because Viengtai is in a high volume tourist area (KhaoSan Road) there is an Airport Express bus terminus not far away which charges 150 Baht each way, whereas Taxi Meter charges appear to be 400 - 600+. You are in the bus with youngish backpacker types and you have to carry your baggage onto the bus so travel light!
The location of the hotel is awesome but everything else falls short. The rooms are just adequate and the cost was more than anything we've paid in all of Thailand. we had to change rooms twice (we were there only two nights) because the air con kept breaking. They gave us a wake up call even though we never asked for one. One good thing... there is a tailor in the building that is pretty good - they turned around three suits for us in one day!
My rating concerns a deluxe non smoking room.
If the standard rooms had no carpet, they will also received good rating.
Nice stay, in the middle of the historic Bangkok, great buffet for the Breakfast (thai or international). The restaurant serves also good food, well prepared and tasty.
The service is very professional, a bit cold, some smiles will be an advantage.
Best of all is the location. is the best place to stay in Bangkok. The nightlife is great. The hotel is pretty standard but clean and we addressed this very nicely. So if the pressure should fix the shower.
Even thought the hotel can do with new carpets and showers the overall hotel is clean, friendly, helpful, and serves an excellent breakfast (from two teenage boys perspective). The location is great with the night markets right on its door step and easy walking distance to the Grand Palace. Would definatley stay there again.
This hotel is well-located and so this is also a drawback because street is very noisy. If your room is face to this street, this is impossible to sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning! Pool is not not so nice because it is impossible to relax around it (no relax chair).
Viengtai is a clean, no fuss hotel for the budget minded traveler. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and spacious. Considering how close it is to Khao San Rd the noise is minimal. They have a pool which is always a bonus in Bangkok and they also do luggage storage for a small daily fee if you are heading north as I was. The food however is definitely better on the street than in restaurant so give that food a miss if you are staying. Overall though a great hotel and good value for money.
