Sawadee Smile was a great find for my first trip to Khao San Road. A very brief walk away from the hustle, Smile feels secluded yet not remote. The staff are friendly enough, and free breakfast was a great treat.
It's important to remember, this isn't the Ritz. You're staying at a budget hotel, and that's what you're going to get. That said, I have no complaints. If you're a minimalist when you're on the road, and view your hotel room as a place to store your stuff and rest your head at night, Smile will be more than adequate for you.
I booked this hotel online, left Bangkok for a couple days, and then came back to Smile when I returned to the city - it was worth it.
