The Salil is situated at the quiet dead end of Soi 8, & they offer golf cart transportation for anybody too lazy to walk 10 min. It’s clean & modern, has friendly staff, pay-as-you-go in-room WiFi, wall-mounted flat screen TV & DVD player & includes breakfast & free video rentals.
My room was on the 4th floor & there’s no elevator. They count floors the European way, so it’s actually on what I think of as the 5th. Good exercise, but maybe not everybody appreciates that.
The room was clean & nicely lit with a good variety of lighting options, which is something I really like. The wardrobe, dressing table/desk & refrigerator cabinet were of tasteful wood & the safety box holds a B5 laptop. The mattress was firm & comfortable enough, tho a softer topper would improve it. The bathroom was in good condition with one of those washbasins designed to look like a bowl set on the counter. I’ve always considered those a silly affectation, but I now see how their sloping sides reduce their footprint & leave more counter space free.
The drawbacks were 1) There was no chair, only a dressing table stool. 2) The polished floors were quite slippery. 3) The air con takes a fair while to cool the room. 4) The wall clock ticks. 5) The hotel “limousine” to the airport for 800 baht is double the maximum you might ever pay a taxi & taxis are plentiful in the soi.
All in all tho, I liked the place & would gladly stay there again.
