Fantastic stylish place to stay - a refuge
From the outside of the hotel on a busy Chinatown Road the hotel is so inviting and peaceful. Decorated in 1920s/1930s style is is an oasis of loveliness in Bangkok. Located very convenitently (a ten minute) walk to river buses, taxis are all around too. MRT nearby.
Hotel staff very friendly too and we were warmly greeted by all.
Great location too for evening meals wiht night vendors and street food.

Shanghai tang style
It was difficult to search initially, as the signboard were being blocked by other F&B signboards, it alongside the other shop houses, but look for T&K seafood or Nam Sing bird's nest restaurant, and you're at the right track. Once you've stepped into the front desk, your frustrated mood will be alleviated as thou you've stepped into Shanghai tang. You'll be greeted with warm smiles from the receptionists and the bellboy (man) was pro-active to help you with your luggages. The room is well equipped with basic necessities and they have bath robe. The overall room and toilet is clean, but not sure if it was the bed bugs, but both me and my partner got bitten on the foot and angle area, and i woke up twice because of the itch. But thats all there is to it. It's a magnificent place to at least try once.

Shanghai Mansion is a treat to a photographers eye and to stay there makes you forget to be in Bangkok. It is the lovely island you can return to after an exhausting day among millions of people. The rooms are furnished in a most artistic colorful way. The location is in a busy street in China town but you will enjoy the calm of a village as soon as you enter the hotel. Hungry? Just take some steps and you will have the choice between numerous good street stalls and many restaurants including a great seafood place. We stayed in a normal bedroom for one night and in a suite for two nights and especially enjoyed the latter. It was brighter and the fact that real windows were missing didn't bother there. The suite was the nicest hotel room I ever stayed in. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Great Location
We stayed here overnight just as we were leaving Thailand as an alternative to a plastic airport hotel. We chose it based on location and for the quirky individual styling. However, our driver struggled to find it and the entrance isn't that impressive, with the main reception being on the first floor. I couldn't fault the staff and we were greeted with cold towels and drinks whilst we checked in. The public areas are quite striking and are certainly unlike any other hotel Iv'e stayed in. The rooms are ok, but suffer from lack of any natural lighting, the Chinese theme means lots of red and black which adds to the sense of every thing being quite dark. The bed was huge and comfortable. The Cotton jazz club sounds like a great idea but suffered from being empty and as a result lacked atmosphere. The location for us was the big plus, you step out of the hotel into the complete madness which is China Town. We paid 2000thb which I was happy with, I would have been less happy to pay the full price of 4000!

Diving in China NIghts.
If you are looking for a stereotyped and sad room, in a stereotyped and sad 4 stars international hotel, if you are looking for the same thing wherever you are on the planet, please don't choose this one. But if you want to live an experience in one of these beautiful suits, in a really nice atmosphere, at the tipping point between an "old colonial spirit" and a chinese decoration set of kung-fu movie, please be welcomed. I will definitely experience this hotel again, and I wish you a pleasant time, whatever you are here for.

cosy stay at Shanghai Mansion
Stayed at the Shanghai Mansion for 4 nights, arrived the 1st day of Chinese New Year, because it's located at China Town, so it has been terribly busy and croweded and main road was blocked. Had to carry the luggages and walk to the hotel as the taxi couldn't get in. However, inside of the hotel room is a complete different atmosphere, serene and stylish decorated with lovely colors. The last 2 nights we were upgraded to another room, differently decorated and more space. A little noisy at nights, not sure it comes from lower floor or outside the street but it's acceptable. There's no variety choice of breakfast but still good, only the staffs were a bit busy and you may have to ask for the coffee, the spoon, the sugar.....
The hotel is fantastic only if you don't mind the location as you have to go everywhere by taxi and tuktuk.
