Beautiful tropical park-like garden
It was my very first trip to BKK and the last two days of my vacation so I wanted to have something nice. I basically chose the hotel not for the stars, location or whatever but for the pool and surrounding tropical garden. And I was not disappointed! This was the most wonderful (and well maintained) lush tropical setting (in a big city) I've ever seen! So if you're looking for a spot like this, quiet and like a retreat in a big hectic city - this is certainly it!
The room was good, nothing to rave about, something you'd expect from a 5* hotel - only annoyance was a very loud aircon! Upon check-in I had been upgraded but I couldn't really figure out what the difference was. Well, was a nice gesture, though.
Staff at reception was very nice and friendly, but, sorry, I was under the impression, not too efficient. On the other hand, if you're on vacation, not a big deal either.
If you're looking for nightlife within walking distance, this is not the place to be. But the Pathumwan area is not that bad, with lots of embassies and therfore rather safe and decent.
Right next to the hotel was a pretty funky little restaurant, "My Collection Home Cuisine", with excellent food, not the cheapest place but worth a try.
All in all, I'd definitely stay at the Nai Lert again!
