Overall, the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai is one of the city's better hotels, and it has a very good location and offers good value for its guests. The rooms are large, very clean, and
offer a good view with big windows. The hotel staff are friendly, especially the chambermaids, although the doormen could be more helpful and attentive to their duties. The breakfast buffet is average, but it should offer more Western dishes. The hotel should do more about the tuk-tuk drivers who routinely bother and overcharge hotel guests. They should not be allowed to park next to the building next to the hotel, which is the hotel's convention centre. My advice to hotel guests is to walk out to Changklan Road and get a red pickup truck (soong tiao). They are much more comfortable and cheaper than a tuk-tuk, especially when it rains, although you might want to take a tuk-tuk just once for the experience.

"We stayed 2 weeks in January/February 2010..."
We stayed 2 weeks in January/February 2010 in the Empress hotel. In 2009 we were there 10 days. We had a wonderful time. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great. Rooms are clean and
big with good beds. We like the location of the hotel. Walk to the old city, a good exercise, and enjoy nice encounters. The Empress Hotel gives you good value for your money. We sure will be back next year!

"An amazing equivalent to a NZ 4..."
An amazing equivalent to a NZ 4 star hotel! We were absolutely impressed! We received an upgrade on arrival. Our bags were taken to our room. The bed was even turned down at night for
us! A great breakfast also provided all for such a small price! A little bit far away from the Sunday market, however just 20bht per person on the Red Trucks. A 15 min walk from the night bizaare. Would recommend this hotel to all.

lobby is beautiful...kind of ends there though.Staff not very friendly at all. I was told off by head waitress when i arrived for breakfast with only ten minutes left.What was left of the food was
old, cold and dry. My fridge didn't work properly, there were ants on my toothbrush. I paid extra to use the internet, but it didn't work anyway- a staff member came up to my room for 5 minutes to try to fix it(with no success) and i was billed for her phone call when i checked out! pool staff also very unfriendly. i have stayed at much better hotels in thailand for less money

"Great location - clean hotel with excellent..."
Great location - clean hotel with excellent buffet breakfast. Room was spacious with complete amenities except for free wifi. Paid wifi access available. If staying for a few days purchase the 12 hour voucher and
make sure you log off after each use. The hours will remain until used or the voucher expiry date - which ever is first. Compliments to Paul who checked us in. His service and assistance was extremely friendly and efficient. The only draw back was the check out staff's insistence that we use the hotel taxi to take us to the airport - at a cost of double the meter rate. Even the shuttle rate for 2 persons at 90 baht each was overly high. When we insisted that the reception call a taxi for us they said they did not know the number. When the number was found they wanted to charge us for the phone call. Small things but annoying all the same We would recommend this hotel and would definately stay there again Wirastra P Yogja Indonesia

"It's a nice hotel, a bit away..."
It's a nice hotel, a bit away from the center, but iyt's a ten minute walk or a 30 baht tuktuk ride to the night market. The deluxe rooms are really great value, certainly worth
four stars. We deided to stay lonegr and will stay here again if we ever get back to chiang mai.
