We originally tried to book a hotel...
We originally tried to book a hotel more in the center of Chaing Mai, simply to make it easier to tour. Unfortunately, there not not anyone we wanted available so we opted for Novotel on the basis that it is a chain so hopefully the standard would be good.
We were very pleased with it, the customer service was great, every evening there was a free shuttle service from 7-11pm to take you to the night bazaar. There was also a supermarket practically next door which was good for nic nacs and presents for family.
They do have companies marketing trips, however, my advice is to go into town, you will get the same a lot cheaper.
Tuk tuks are ready avaiable outside the hotel at a very cheap price! and GREAT FUN!
The hotel also provides a shuttle service. We are extremely fusy with hotels in whatever country, we were very pleased with this one.

I have booked the room because I have several times experienced Novotel in Europe. My observations are the following:
+ price is a very good value
+ staff is very friendly
+ breakfast is OK
+/- the room is large but needs to be renovated; you are hearing your neighbors using their toilets
- extra services are expensive; for example 30 minutes of internet connection costs 200 baths
- we had one dinner at the restaurant because of a thunderstorm: it was expensive and no good comparing to the restaurants down town
- the shuttle is free to the night market but it costs 140 Baths to the airport comparing to the 120 Baths of a taxi meter
- the location is far from down town but there are many Tulk-Tulks at 70 baths the trip
To summarize I recommend this hotel for the cheap price of the night and for people who don't look for the luxurious comfort of a four stars hotel!

It was my first trip ever to...
It was my first trip ever to the country of Thailand. I choose the novotel chiang mai mainly because there is a same hotel only three blocks from my home. I did my booking over the internet and all went very well. From the moment of my arrival i was overwhelmed at the high level of service and friendliness of all the hotel staff. The only fault i found upon checking in was that they insisted on photo copying my passport. From their on though i cannot say enough of how great the staff,the service and the location of the hotel is. The location of the hotel is close to a street with shop's,commercial bank's,restaurant,massage place's (outside the main entrance )and a excellent taylor shop where i had a tailored made silk suit fitted and delivered in 24 hour's for very little. There are plenty of tuktuk's outside the lobby front door's and a very good tour agent in the lobby for the booking of daily tour's. I would strongly recommend touring thailand in this fashion. The food and drink's in the hotel bar and restaurant are great and the staff took really good care of me,even showed me some thai hospatality on their off time by escorting me to some of the local eateries and club's. To sum it up,i left thailand and the novotel hotel with a very good impression. I highly recommend this hotel and the city of chiang mai which is very safe and friendly to tourists.I will be returning to stay at the novotel again in december of this year. Can't wait !

Hotel employees all very helpful and diligent. Thanks to the speedy help of the hotel employees to send us to the hospital, my dad who was having lung infection received prompt action from the hospital. Once again, thank you very much.
Stayed at the Novotel Chiang Mai on...
Stayed at the Novotel Chiang Mai on Jan. 29 and again Feb 5, 2006. Was extremely please with the hotel and facilities offered. Rooms were large, clean and very affordable, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is a bit away from the night market but tuk tuks are easily available and very reasonably priced. The Asiarooms website is great! Very easy to use and offers fantastice prices for hotels in Thailand.

Although located in a somewhat out of the way area, it is easy to get to restaurants and pubs in a few minutes by tuk tuk. Excellent supermarket next door with a very wide selection of imported goods, should one wish to buy pre-dinner drink nibbles. The hotel punches way above the price charged. Superb value for money

The hotel is a little old, rooms are large but basic, however overall the hotel offers good value for money. Good buffet breakfast, and great staff. The hotel's location is a little isolated, although there is a fitness centre and supermarket right next door. Beware, the room walls are extremely thin!
