We stayed at the STAR for 5...
We stayed at the STAR for 5 nights. For the price we paid and the location we wanted (just 5 minutes walk to the night bazaar) we can't really complain. We requested a big bed during booking but they met the request by joining two beds together(!).We had to deal with a stubborn aircon that we couldnt lower down the temperature no matter how we fiddled with the knob, so we had to deal with a temperature that was sufficiently cool but could not be adjusted. The bathroom's shower spray-head was missing throughout our entire stay(which meant that the water flows out like from a tap instead of a consistent spray).You would think that their hotel maintenance would look after these "basic" things rather than ignoring them. As we saw it the problem could have been rectified quickly at no great cost to the hotel. To our surprise and disappointment, we had another problem with the shower unit at another hotel in Bangkok later(and it was a pricier one with a 3-star rating). Its a lackaidaisical attitude towards guest comfort that should not be. These hotels (2 and 3 stars as rated) could not in any way be considered guesthouses or cheap accomodations. Another criticism was the breakfast buffet spread was rather limited and the items were consistently the same. However we were mindful we were paying only so much for this hotel rated as 2-star with breakfast thrown in.
Aside from these relatively minor annoyances - the room was decent; housekeeping was excellent and we had fresh towels and bed linen everyday. Counter staff was friendly and a wake-up call was met on the dot. The location is a 3 minute walk to night bazaar and all the conveniences (internet cafe,cheap food and within walking distance or a short tuk-tuk ride to most central city areas) Chiang Mai airport is only 10 minutes and 100 baht away by taxi.
Verdict - low-cost decent accomodations and convenient location. For the money saved we spent on shopping!

On overall Star Hotel has met my expectation. Prior to my arrival, I was expecting Star Hotel to be in an unwelcoming state with poor cleanliness in both the room and public areas. But I was proven wrong, and was pleased with the clean room accorded to me, although the showers aren't strong enough. Fortunately there isn't any mosquito in my room, as the hotel encouraged guests not to open the windows at all times, with a signage posted in the lobby and no one could have missed seeing it. The staff were pleasant and friendly, from the doorman to the front office personnel. However, there was no buffet breakfast on my second day of stay on a Tuesday. But the kitchen staff made it an American Breakfast Ala Carte style. Most importantly, Star Hotel is situtated at a corner of a road away from the noise of the traffic along Chiangmai's night bazaar, even though you're smacked right at the heart of the bazaar! A memorable stay indeed at highly affordable rates...
Star hotel is a very good hotel....
Star hotel is a very good hotel. Located in central, near night market. I think that just the lobby is not so impressive. Although it is just 3 star, but the room is very big. The breakfest is local delicious food, it is worth to try it with 30 minutes. Haha
The reception is ok, just I think the call charge is very high. I call a local phone for 4 minutes, cost me 57 Baht.

it's really spacious for a budget hotel....
it's really spacious for a budget hotel. i got a room on 11th floor, it has a nice balcony, but the view is rather blocked by another tall building. anyway, it has a clean bed and bathroom, maybe only the carpet is quite old and the light is rather dim. the tv is big, but there's only 1 channel... overall.. it was a good stay in the Star hotel =)

stay there at Star in Chiang Mai for 4 days and it was ok, decent rooms but beware of mosquitos!!other than that, you couldn't ask for more.
