Five of us (3 rooms) stayed here in January 2009, and we loved everything about the Tamarind Village. The location is superb, right in the middle of the old city, and yet it is secluded in a lovely courtyard, so the hotel is quiet and restful. The breakfast is large, varied and delicious -- something for everyone. The staff are gracious, helpful, and knowledgeable. The design is Lanna style, with modern conveniences disguised in charming containers to achieve a consistent style. This is not a Western style modern hotel, but it was just as comfortable and convenient as the well-appointed high-rises we stayed at elsewhere during our trip. Tamarind Village gets our highest rating. By Thai standards, the hotel is not a budget choice, but the value is very good by Western standards.
