"I stayed there with my family (three..."
I stayed there with my family (three adults and two small kids in total) in two separate rooms for five wonderful days from 18 Jun. I had booked the rooms through Asia Rooms and for the price paid, there is hardly anything to complain about. The rooms were slightly smaller than expected but everything else, from the staff to the pool, were superb. The hotel environment was serene, like in a whole world of its own. This is not a business hotel so there is no business centre or gym or spa. There is cable tv in the room and near the hotel are numerous internet cafes so there is no threat of losing touch with the outside world. Oasis Spa, with several locations in Chiang Mai, will pick you up from the hotel should you choose to go there for a day. Renovations in the hotel were not intrusive. The hotel is situated within the old city, within walking distance to many temples. On Sunday night there was a night market offering mainly artistic stuff along Rajdamnoen Rd, right outside the hotel. We bumped into Mr Sanit, a friendly chap who runs a tuk-tuk (#169) and a car, and frequently hangs around Tamarind to pick up passengers. With his car we went visiting the sites around Chiang Mai, eg Mae Sa elephant camp, Doi Suthep, Bhu Ping Palace and Doi Pui village in one day. We found one wonderful place to eat, Rose, at the junction of Rachamaka Rd and Praproklaow Rd, which was like two blocks and 10 min walk from the hotel, on the fourth day. Rose, run by a German who once cooked for Queen Sirikit, also offers guest rooms on the upper floors of the building and acts as an agency for all sorts of single and multiple day trips.

A very different sort of hotel - clear eco-awareness and (pretty successful) attempt to recreate traditional Thai architecture and atmosphere. Lovely atmosphere, very quiet and restful. Rooms on small side but wonderful supply of lotions
