My stay in this new boutique resort spa was very pleasant. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and personable.I would recommend this to people of age group specially if you are going with your little ones. Excellent room, interiors and amenities.
Khum phaya resort
A beautiful and relaxing hotel which successfully manages the illusion of tranquility although location is bizarre (its situated in the middle of a commercial centre). Piped music and lots of running water is used to drown out traffic noise from highway that runs alongside the hotel. It works but can start to grate after a while particularly when the same music loop has been repeated every day. We ate in the restaurant one evening and were the only guests in there. Food looks great but was poor quality compared to much cheaper local alternatives and arrived barely warm so we chose to eat out after that. The pool bar is not generally manned and bell ringing doesn't always result in speedy service - we had to wait 30 minutes to order a drink on our first day. We has a poolside room which was lovely. The housekeeping service was excellent and towels changed twice a day. Pool is big and keeps the kids entertained; kids area is heated but main pool was cool in parts. Free shuttle bus into Chiang Mai is handy but taxi fares are also cheap if you don't want to fit with timetable. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel - just wish it had been further away from traffic so that we weren't forced to listen to piped music all day.
Calm & Relaxing
The Khum Phaya Resort really is a lovely place to stay and instils a sense of calm while you're within it's grounds! It's a cool oasis within a hot city so it always felt great leaving down-town behind and heading back along the Super Highway to this tranquil hotel.
The rooms are lovely and well kept, reception staff very sweet and helpful, the breakfast is sufficient though not lavish.
The hotel offers a complimentary daily transportation service to various places around Chiang Mai such as the Sunday Walking Market and other downtown areas since the hotel location is quite far from everything. If you need to leave the hotel to explore the city you have 3 main options : 1-ask reception to call a cab which will cost about 200 BHT. 2 -Take a 10 minute walk to the mini mall where the Carrefour supermarket is to catch a tuktuk / taxi where the price can be negotiated or 3 - stick to the complimentary transportation timetable. We were there for 4 nights and used a combination of all options. The location is not a big issue as long as you are prepared for it. You cannot walk out of the hotel to take a stroll and expect to come across any eating or drinking spots nearby .....there are none!!
One day we opted to have lunch in the hotel restaurant and ordered a noodle dish with prawns. The dish was gorgeously presented though the 6 large prawns were uncooked. We ate the rest and obviously left the prawns or we would have been sick for days. When the plates were being cleared away I told the waiter to inform the chef that we were forced to leave the prawns because they were uncooked. Either due to the language barrier or lack of training to deal with a complaint, the waiter smiled, said "so sorry" and whisked the raw prawns away. There was no further address of the situation while we were still in the restaurant or any acknowledgement from management from the feedback form which I left with the reception about being presented with a plate full of raw seafood.
Nice resort to spend holiday in Chiang Mai
Nice hotel, very good ambiance, friendly Front office staff, especialy M and Namwan (always morning flight), also very helpful. Restaurant food was average, staffs at restaurant weren't friendly enough, no good morning no smile. Overall, we had a great holiday there.
The hotel is lovely, however it is out of town and you will need to take a taxi or hire bikes if you want to get into town daily, about a 15min journey. The hotel does offer a couple of daily shuttle trips to differant places but only one night trip into town to visit the night market. The pool is beautiful, but it is was cold. The pool bar wasn't staffed but there was a telephone you could order food and drinks. Breakfast was great but evening meals was a bit hit and miss. There was sewerage problems on out last night and we had to move rooms, they gave us a inferior room and we had to ask for a discount. A bit quiet and no area to meet and chat with others.
We had a fantastic time at Prince Khum Phaya from the moment the shuttle bus picked us up at the airport until it dropped us back. The staff were wonderfully friendly and the facilities were second to none. The spa retreat was an experience not to be missed!
