I recently wrote an unfavourable review of the Bann Khun Yom complaining that the beds were rock hard, the noise levels from chickens, geese, builders etc made my stay unbearable.
However, I checked out five other hotels in Chiang Rai and now realise that really hard beds are the 'thing'! I even thought I would buy a mattress but they are rock hard too! I found a bedspread in the wardrobe so folded it into six and slept on that which made life a little easier.
Finding earplugs in my handbag (aquired from the flight) blocked out the sound of the cockrell at 3am and the builders at 7am. Things were looking up.
The hotel lacked a resteraunt and bar and this is what the builders were completeing, and very nice it looks too.
The hotel reception and overall appearance is absolutely beautiful, all carved from teak wood and spotlessly clean. The bathroom in our room was just a wet room with a leaking toilet a mildew but buy some bleach and that was soon sorted.
The staff understood very little english but did do their best to please.
I would reccomend this hotel but take a lilo to put on the bed, bleach for the bathroom and earplugs to block out the farmyard noise at the crack of dawn. I just wish we were there for the opening of the splendid new bar/resteraunt.
