Really enjoyed the Felix. We stayed in a Deluxe River View room and it was tastefully decorated, large and had a good sized balcony just metres from the river with beautiful views. Nice gardens and swimming pools, you can see the bridge from the hotels grounds and it's close enough to walk over the bridge via a path from the car park but there is no hand rail and no lights so you have to get a taxi back at night, agree a price first and don't be shy to haggle. The restaurants were quite reasonably priced for a hotel of this standard and the food was nice enough but If you cross the bridge there are cheaper restaurants and bars, even more so at the other end of the road where guest houses like the Jolly Frog and Apples are excellent value - motorbike taxis cost from 20 Baht if you don't want to walk. If you have any laundry take it somewhere accross the river - we paid 15 Baht per kilo, Felix charge 25 Baht for a pair of socks! Only slight complaints would be the bathroom, although spacious it was slightly dated and no seperate shower, no tea/coffee facilities in room and I hate having to take coupons for breakfast. Overall the Felix is a lovely resort though, great value, and we would certainly stay again if we return to Kanchanaburi.
If you have the time I would also recommend taking a trip to Tiger Temple, amazing experience! A trip on the Death Railway to Nam Tok (window seat on the left for the best views) and if you're fit enough, visit the 7 tiered Erawan Waterfalls, a hike to the top tier is rewarding, wear something you can swim in but sensible shoes. You can book trips from many places accross the river and they will be cheaper than hotel prices.
If you are getting a private taxi to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok, stop at Nakhon Pathom to see Wat Phra Pathom, the world's tallest chedi, and Sanam Chan Palace is immaculate.
