I have been to Thailand about 10 times and this was the first time to Konchanaburi. On this trip I had been staying the previous week in Bangkok and wanted some time for peace and quiet. The Felix certainly provided me with all that I was looking for. It is situated a 5 minute taxi ride from the town but this is no problem. It is walking distance to the Bridge on the River Kwai which for me was the main reason for going to the area. The hotel is somewhat functional without the modern intricate beauty of newer hotels. The architecture of the resort felt rather 70's concrete whereas other hotels really go to detail in including carvings and little thai designs that soften the edges.
I was pleasantly surprised to find two pools, one was a 25m lap pool which was fantastic and there is a handy 1km running track around the hotel grounds. The gym is functional but not the most modern. Rooms were clean but somewhat dated again as with most of the hotel. Food was fine and there is a bar with pool, darts and live music.
All in all and as far as I could see from the area this is a good hotel and one of the better ones in the area. It did not take my breath away and if I were returning to the area I would stay here again but would say that if one of the chains of hotels opened up a 2007 hotel I would probably look at that first. So you know my taste, other hotels I have stayed in include the Pathumwan Princess - Bangkok, Amari Coral Beach - Phuket, Sheraton - Krabi, Hard Rock - Pattaya.
