My husband and I spent 6 days...
My husband and I spent 6 days at Layana. The resort staff and its service were wonderful. We enjoyed our daily walks on the beach, and the pool and outdoor jacuzzi were great. The Garden Pavilion room we stayed in was big and clean. You can see that the management has put in a lot of attention and details to the decor and lush landscaping.
The buffet breakfast was good. There was only one restaurant at the resort and they serve western food, wines as well as Thai food. The price was reasonable and the food was well presented. However, during one of our dinners, the jumbo prawns we ordered was not fresh. The sauce for the deep fried garoupa was also very salty. On hindsight, we could have asked the dishes to be changed.
The downside of our holiday is that there is not much to do at the resort as well as on Koh Lanta during low season. There are no pool tables, table tennis, jetski available. You basically just go to the pool everyday. It is not safe to swim in the sea as the waves are strong. If you are into spas, the resort has a spa which is quite good although pricey.
We took a half day sightseeing tour on the island as well as a full day tour on Krabi mainland. On Koh Lanta, it is very quiet and not much to do! Adventure tours to other islands and activities are only available in high season. The travelling time is also very long. During low season, it takes an hour's drive from Krabi Airport and an hour by two car ferries to reach Layana Resort.
This place is recommended if you visit during high season (October to April).
