I cannot praise this hotel high enough....
I cannot praise this hotel high enough. Impeccable service - you don't feel like you're in Thailand at all (you know, the usual slower pace in everything)! Very efficient. They're so on top of everything! You feel like a royalty there - yeah, it's THAT good! All their staff (from front desk to housekeeping to restaurant staff to leisure staff to management) deserve standing ovation. The decor, everything is great - I particularly like the ceiling fan in the room and the chair on the balcony! The bath tub was also designed in a way that you can stare up to the sky without worrying people from outside can see you. And the infinity salt water pool - that it's okay to swim without the goggles too! They took every detail to heart! Not a place for the party type though. Or if you're looking for a lot of things to do. There's a spa, a library and a gym. No treadmill - but who needs it when you can just run on the long stretch of beach? You can walk down the beach and a long way down you'll find some other hotels restaurants and bars too. It's only 2 hours on a public minivan from Krabi airport to the hotel. The hotel can arrange this transportation for you, around THB 200 (low season). Very convenient. I was a solo traveller wanting tranquility and peace and a complete relaxing break. This place meets all my needs and I highly recommend Layana.

A very nice hotel with a very romantic atmosphere, very helpful staff despite of some have yet difficulties in speaking English, ideal for couples. The room was big and well decorated. A minor point is related with the beach, although the beach in front of the hotel was clean, in some parts near the hotel the beach is full of garbage (cans, bottles, wallets, plastic bags, etc). Overall is a very good hotel that I would recomend.

I would defy anyone to find anything...
I would defy anyone to find anything to dislike about Layana resort. From the moment one arrives and feels the cool sea breeze across the manicured lawns, one has a sense that this stay is going to be special. The staff have really perfected the resort service balance: never intrusive but still helpful and available when needed. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, and if you ask for something to be done it happens. We stayed in the standard Garden view room, which I liked because they were quiet and a bit away from the pool. The pool and beach are beautiful. There is a modest but useable gym. The resort is small, and that is its charm. The restaurant doesn't have a huge range (and of course isn't cheap), with perhaps more pizza and pasta dishes than I normally eat in the middle of Asia, but all the food was of a very high standard. If you wander along the beach you will find some budget places to eat, but sometimes its easier to eat in house! My only small gripe: more local/Asian foods at breakfast! I know the resort caters to Europeans, but should we be starting a day in the tropics with fried bacon, croissants and cheese stuffed sausages?! Stop drooling fatty! You need soups and chilli in this climate! We have stayed in many beach resorts in Asia and on balance of price, location, friendliness and overall enjoyment this is one of the best. One tip: use the shuttle/speedboat service provided by the hotel from Krabi airport and avoid the Lanta ferry!

Spent 1 week at the Layana in Feb 2009 and wished we'd stayed longer. Excellent food in the resturant and fantastic service all round. This was our sixth visit to Thailand and this was the best Hotel yet. Can't wait to return.

The Layana is beautiful and the staff...
The Layana is beautiful and the staff is friendly. But the resort did not live up to my expectations from earlier reviews. We were not picked up at the Krabi airport despite having confirmed arrangements. The restaurant was a big disappointment as the food was average and the service not much better. It did not come close to justifying prices several times higher than at nearby restaurants. We didn't even try the spa because of similar pricing. And excursions were very high too--a half day snorkeling trip, which only included two hour-long snorkeling sessions--cost $60 per person. It's a relaxing place but not a good value.

We truly enjoyed our Honeymoon at Layana....
We truly enjoyed our Honeymoon at Layana. Why? Activities/Tours: Very good range of activities guided by knowledgeable/friendly staff arranged on-site Beach/Pool: Excellent maintained and quiet Food/Restaurant: great variety of European and Thai dishes in excellent quality at reasonable prices. Restaurant&Bar are overlooking the beach/sea Location: Quiet, yet close to the main village Service: Bi-lingual (Thai-English), competent, friendly and quick Size: resort has only 50 rooms, thus there is no waiting for a restaurant table, beach chair etc.
