I would defy anyone to find anything...
I would defy anyone to find anything to dislike about Layana resort. From the moment one arrives and feels the cool sea breeze across the manicured lawns, one has a sense that this stay is going to be special.
The staff have really perfected the resort service balance: never intrusive but still helpful and available when needed. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, and if you ask for something to be done it happens.
We stayed in the standard Garden view room, which I liked because they were quiet and a bit away from the pool. The pool and beach are beautiful. There is a modest but useable gym.
The resort is small, and that is its charm. The restaurant doesn't have a huge range (and of course isn't cheap), with perhaps more pizza and pasta dishes than I normally eat in the middle of Asia, but all the food was of a very high standard. If you wander along the beach you will find some budget places to eat, but sometimes its easier to eat in house! My only small gripe: more local/Asian foods at breakfast! I know the resort caters to Europeans, but should we be starting a day in the tropics with fried bacon, croissants and cheese stuffed sausages?! Stop drooling fatty! You need soups and chilli in this climate!
We have stayed in many beach resorts in Asia and on balance of price, location, friendliness and overall enjoyment this is one of the best. One tip: use the shuttle/speedboat service provided by the hotel from Krabi airport and avoid the Lanta ferry!
