My wife and I have stayed at Ao Prao on two occasions and each time we are full of praise for the very friendly staff at the resort. They certainly deserve our thanks.

The hotel was very pleasant being one...
The hotel was very pleasant being one of three resorts on this stretch of beach. The service was good enough and the beach itself is quite nice (though not as white sand as on the other side of the island). The breakfast is great. Negatives: transportation to the other side of the island can be expensive. Very limited activities. Mini bar very expensive (but you can go to the kiosk in the mid way point of the beach to buy cheaper stuff).
Still, all in all, a lovely place and the island is pretty nice too. Diving not as good as Koh Chang but being so close to Bangkok makes it easier to get to.
The Ao Prao Bay is beautiful, but...
The Ao Prao Bay is beautiful, but also pretty aloof. To get to the seafood restaurants or bars on the east side of the island sawngthaew (transport) is required. Usually this is not a cost factor in Thailand, however in Koh Samet it is.
The Ao Prao Resort itself is nice, but nothing special. Particular for its price you would expect more in Thailand. Hotel staff is friendly and attentive. Just everything (rooms, restaurant, drinks, speed boat service etc) is a bit too expensive for what it offers. Next time I go to Koh Samet I will therefore try a different resort in another location.

My wife and I just spent our honeymoon at Ao Prao resorts and we loved it 100%. It isn't cheap to stay there but once you do you will find it a lot harder to come back to Koh Samet without staying there. Because it was our honeymoon they gave us a free bottle of champagne and the transportation to and from the resort was smooth as silk. It is also close enough to the main beach of the island where you can get a great seafood dinner and party. Its a lovely place to stay and we can't wait to go back.

Resort a bit tired, and kindof of expensive for what you actually get.
We had gone to great lengths to book a "twin" bed deluxe but rolled up to be offered a
"double", then offered a twin "out the back" - finally ended up with, because that's all they
had left, a twin (deluxe? - don't think so) right next to the restaurant (with live
entertainment at night thrown in for free - whether we wanted it or not!)
Staff, for the most part, were great

We were given a reasonably nice chalet room on the hill with lots of greenery all around, however in hindsight, it would have been worthwhile to pay a bit extra for the beachfront bungalow/chalet. The room and bathroom was of average size and hot water didn't always work that well. The phone line also didn't work for some part of the day but connection came back on later. The beach at Ao Prao was simply lovely, the water very clear and clean and warm to swim in, even after heavy evening showers. Dinner at the restaurant, with live music, from the lobby lounge was nice-at a reasonable price. Service was generally good. Ferry transfer to and from the resort (direct from the front of the beach in front of the hotel) was good too. We would recommend this hotel.

Quiet and perfect. My wife and me have been to the Ao Prao Resort 6 times and will keep going. Staff and location are excellent. Best B/F on the island.
