The resort has a lovely contemporary feel which you notice as soon as you arrive.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The pool is great although it became annoying when people would place towels to hold beds yet fail to use them for half of the day. I think the staff should be aware of this or have a limit on time.
The beach is amazing, white white sand and clear water. It's so quiet yet close enough to chaweng for more shopping, nightlife etc.
Breakfast was nice, usual stuff, but well presented and i liked the extra touch of being able to order lattes instead of just usual plain coffee.
Food at the other restaurants was not great. The things you'd expect to be good, satay, Pad Thai etc was average and over priced and things that were good one day were not so great the next so consistancy was a problem. (The Imperial resort next door served good food and further up the beach was the best restaurant, Beach Love, definately worth checking out.)
The hotel advertised itself as being contemporary so we were surprised and disappointed when they had tacky and cheesy buffet nights with terrible singers. This is just not necessary and i can't believe people still want this sort of thing!!
We had the basic palm room which was lovely design. Get the upstairs room if possible with outside shower. We had to change rooms on our last night and the downstairs palm room wastes alot of space in the bathroom and had problems with the aircon, making it almost unbearable to sleep. Thank goodness it was just one night.
Overall though we had a fantastic time at New Star and would definately return.

We just got back from Thailand and...
We just got back from Thailand and had booked our rooms through AsiaRooms. In Bangkok we stayed at the Fourwings which has the same rating as this hotel. However, the Fourwings is like a 10 star if this is a 3 star. The room was very average, decor average, no t.v., no alarm clock, no phone very basic. It was large and the maid did a excellent job cleaning our room and was very nice. She would wait until we went to breakfast to clean our room. There was no gardenview - our room looked directly on the next room. When we complained to the staff they said they couldn't do anything about it even though the place was practically empty. After we complained, the people at the frontdesk were not friendly to us for the rest of our stay. The rooms are located down a steep hill from the lobby. Nobody helped us with our bags on checking in or checking out and it was quite a struggle. I can't image older people or anyone who is not in decent shape hauling their luggage the distance. If you stay here only bring a backpack! We prebooked this hotel and really wished we had not, for the money we could have stayed at alot nicer place! We plan on returning to Thailand in the future but we will definitely will not be staying here or recommending it to any of our friends.

We stayed here in nov 04 and we were very satisfied. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms and very good breakfast. The only downside is that is is far from all the action in Chaweng, but you can easy take a taxi on the street. Not to be recomended for seniors since there are a lot of stairs to climb.
