I had quite a nice stay in the Sand Sea Resort. There are some good things to say about it.
Location - 10-15 minutes walk from Lamai centre. Right on the beach. Also right on a main road so to get to Chaweng you can just walk to the road and hail very cheap transport. 50 baht each way on the converted red pick-up trucks.
Pool - Quite nice, not huge, but not crowded either.
Breakfast - Good selection with a lovely lady making your eggs
Wi-fi - You have to pay 100 baht an hour, and the connection isn't very fast, but at least you have the option.
The only thing I would say about this resort is that in my view it's one of those places where the degree to which you like the place depends on the specific room you get. I had a bungalow with a so called 'garden view' but found that it didn't have any kind of a view at all, and was quite claustrophobic because it was stuck between the other bungalows. I think that if you had one with a sea fron or pool view, you'd probably be better off.
All in all, better than average, and I would stay there again, but I would only do so if a good room was available.
