You should think over paying your money...
You should think over paying your money for this hotel. Seriously. And here is the reason why.
(FYI, we stayed at a nice luxurious hotel in Lamai beach for the first two nights, and we moved to this
hotel for the rest of our trip. The trip happened in mid Aug. 2008.)
- The bungalows are packed, and the air is rarely circulating. Besides, the photos in the website are very misleading as the rooms are much smaller than in the photos.
- The roof is quite thin and holds the heat from the sun during the day and radiates back to you in the night time. It's like hot sauna. (It takes 50 mins to cool the room, and the air conditioner automatically turned off before cooling the room.)
- Slippery floor and dangerous steps in the room: There are steps in the room, and I almost felt down twice on the slippery floor. Not good for old people and young children.
- Strange decoration: The room was decorated with some Asian things, but all of them mismatched. It was quite strange to see a painting of a geisha from Japan in the room with other Thai style decoration. The walls were decorating with photos of monks, and I am wondering if any couple can have a romantic night in front of monks. That was not appropriate!
- A lot of flies and mosquitoes. The bugs come to your room easily because the bath room has open-air roof. They are common even in the restaurant, and we were bothered by the bugs while eating there.
- Dirty sewage: Some people will call it a romantic small pond and stream, but it is definitely sewage if you smell the bad smell when you are around it.
- Restricted towels: Have you ever seen a hotel limits the number of towels that you can use per day? Most of hotels ask guests not to overuse the towels for our environment but they provide towels whenever guests need more. Zazen left a message that guests can use one towel per day for swimming pool.
- Dirty beach in front of the hotel: If you choose this hotel because of the beach in front of it, then I would like to say that there are a lot better beaches in Koh Samui. The beach is very dirty, and there were less people who swam in the water there.
- Small swimming pool: Considering Zazen is a spa hotel, we expected a large pool. However, the pool was very small, and very crowded.
As I travel quite a lot in SE Asia, I would re-estimate the value of this hotel less than U$70 per night for delux room. We felt we were overcharged there. I would say that there are a lot better hotels in Koh Samui, and better private clean beaches.
