We stayed at Sala Samui 5 nights...
We stayed at Sala Samui 5 nights from 7-12 October, 2005. I was very happy with most aspects of our stay. No problems checking in or out. It all went like clockwork despite the fact that we arrived 2 hours early and the hotel being booked out. Our Sala Pool Villa was very clean and just like the photos. The outdoor bathroom and the rain shower in particular made it different to most other hotels we've stayed at. There was no problem with creepy crawlies in the bathroom, which I must admit, had been an ititial concern of mine. It was quite warm, being outdoors, but not uncomfortable. The private pool of course was the icing on the cake and used often (even at 2am when I couldn't sleep, so I floated peacefully in the pool, gazing at the stars - better than any sleeping pill!). The staff are outstanding - well trained and yet perfectly natural. Before arriving at Sala Samui we'd already spent 5 nights at the 5* Santiburi Resort and Sala's staff just outshone them. Sala Samui's restaurant, while lacking a little in ambience, has excellent food, a great selection of international wines and is pretty good value for money. Service staff here are second to none! Our only negative experience was with the airconditioning. It's incredibly loud at night and a problem they admitted has been raised by guests many times before. They are trying to get the company that installed the system to rectify it, but until that happens, I would not go again. Otherwise, I'd gladly recommend it to anyone. Oh, and it wouldn't hurt if the sheer curtains used to enclose the bathroom area were replaced. Despite the hotel being so new, ours were already quite mouldstained due to the high humidity and badly torn too. (But that in itself should not stop anyone from staying at this excellent small hotel).<
