We stayed at the Kirikayan from April...
We stayed at the Kirikayan from April 18th to May 5th, quite some time. We tried to find out in advance if the hotel is fully operationable and where told by Kohsamui.Com that it is. It is not! It is not even existing!
The reality is that they have six Poolvillas finished and some residential villas but the Hotel and all its facilities is still under construction - Restaurant, Reception, Spa, Hotel Pool, Gym etc. do not exist at all! They are fully under construction, scheduled to be finished end of May but I do not think they will make it in time.
The pool villas are fully operationable. They serve breakfast and a small room menu in the villas but the variety of food they can offer is limited to just a small handfull of dishes. The offer massage in the pool villas and they have a shuttle service that takes y ou to Chaweng or to Maenam Beach.
The Location
The Kirikayan is uphill app. 700 meters from the ringroad and a 10 mins walk to the beach. So it is quite remote also if you just want to hop in a shop or so.
The rooms
We had a two bedroom Poolvilla which is very very spacious with a nice pool, a sala, a main living room with kitchen, a large brandnew Flat TV, DVD / Music and then two bedrooms also with TV (Flatscreen) a outside shower, a toilet and a bathtub with Jacuzzi. The equipment is brandnew and nice, unfortunately the bathroom always smells strongly due to they water disposal "strategy" I think. Furnitures are new but not very good quality and not a nice as they are in some other hotels of that price category. They do have WLAN but the connection is not very sustainable.
The facilities
None at the current time. No even a reception, you have to call them for whatever you want and they take care of it.
The Staff
Nice and dedicated, do not speak English very well. Not better but nor worse than in other hotels in Thailand, too.
The Food
Okay, but a very low variety.
The Beach
Distance see above, they have a guy down Maenam Beach who sets up Chair and Towel for you and there is a restaurant but that is it. No sports facilities there. If you want your privacy its great...
Overall judgement: They promise more on their website than they can currently keep. So the price is far too high for what they can offer at the moment. The situation might change when the hotel is finished so I recommend you call them in advance if you want to go there and check in detail what they will have and what not and tell them exactly what you want. Their Manager is quite interested in making things happen - he found a lot of good solutions to help us with our demands (I wanted to go in the Gym for example and he negotiated with a nearby Hotel that we could use their gym).
Cheers, Christian
