Am Samui Palace, Koh Samui  

We found this to be a great hotel, being very close to local amenities such a shopping, restaurants and bars. There is a huge choice of eating and drinking places very close to the hotel. Although I would say that some of the bars are very sleazy, these can easily be avoided. The hotel is also only a few minutes walk to the lovely beach, where, again, there are plenty of beachside bars and restaurants where you can also use their sunbeds. The hotel itself was clean, modern and well kept and the staff were excellent. The pool was lovely. The rooms are a decent size, with each one having a balcony. The only criticisms I would have are that some of the surrounding bars play booming dance music until at least 5am every night/morning, and whilst in the position of our room we could only hear the banging bass,which was bad enough, other guests in different parts of the hotel said they could hear the full repertoire. This is fair enough, everyone has their own way of enjoying their holiday, but it does become somewhat annoying as the first light appears but this noise is still going on. It seems to depend where in the hotel your room is positioned but it seems if this will be a problem for you, ensure you don't get an upper floor room near the reception end. The other issue is that some German guests seem to think that certain sunbeds have their names on them and we witnessed those sunbeds being aggressively defended on one occasion, to the extent that a heated argument broke out. However these are clearly factors outside of the hotel's control.
Overall this was an excellent hotel and we would stay again.
