Couples first O.S. get-away.
The staff at Montalay were very friendly, and a father and daughter seemed to be the head of staff, who took their job very seriously, and cared a lot what we thought of their place, while being very friendly.
Montalay is very new, and very clean!! Montalay is a little bit of a work in progress, so a few things were not finished yet, and a few items like a drying rack on the balcony, or a hair dryer were needed, but from now on will be very comfortable, and will only get better.
The food is amazing, and looks and tastes five star, but dessert is limited to two choices, which were simple, and not impressive, and no ice-cream available, which is crazy for a tropical resort, but we expressed our dis-appointment with that, and I'm sure there will be ice-cream from now on.
There were also no alcoholic cocktails available, but beer and wine were available, and again I think that will change.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, looking like a modern Italian beach hotel, and the shower was all glass, and didn't soak the bathroom like an Italian beach hotel. : )
The beach is beatiful, for lazing, swimming snorkelling, and kayakingto the next bay for lunch.
If the weather washes up sticks and rubbish, they are quick to clean the sand, but in south/easterly winds the beach was rough and a lot of debree washes up. Around Xmas we were there, and it was not always a calm beach.
The road into Montaly is 4x4 track, rocky and unmade, so be prepared for a 10 minute enduro track if you want to leave the bay, but we enjoyed the adventure in and out on a rented dirt-bike.
If it is raining, there is a new flat screen TV with movie channels, and international news, or cartoons for the kids.
In general, Montalay will get better and better, and I highly recommend a stay for 4 or five nights. It is quiet, new and one of the best bays on Ko Tao.
