a natural escape on a remote island
This is a place with very few tourists. And that is the reason we have choosen the Koh Yao Yai Village. The accommodation is very nice - in a eco-tourism style with lot of natural material and decorated with handmade local crafts.
positiv:
The pool is huge and clean and there is a fantastic view over the ocean.
The quality of food was good in general. Breakfast is a little bit boring comparing with other hotels in same price category. Lunch & dinner were average, seafood dinner is recommended. There is no other place around for eating.
The bungalows are very nice, we like the outdoor area as well as the bathroom. There is a lot of privacy, every bungalow is free-standing.
The island is remote and something to discoverer. We like that point.
negative:
The dreamlike beach as advertised we couldn't find! There have been a lot of rocks and the water color was brown so we haven't been in the sea for the whole stay.
As already mentioned, there is no other dining option around, because the hotel is very isolated.
Rooms are not so clean (spider-nets behind the curtains...). Our room was not cleaned every day, pool towels haven't' been changed daily.
We have been many times in Thailand before but The Koh Yao Yai Village was the place with the unfriendliest staff we ever had in Thailand. Usually we never complaint about the staff in Thailand. We realized after a few days, that this people in leading positions as waiter or receptionist as well as the activity-desk-staff are coming from other places and maybe there are not happy to be here on the remote island. As long as we stayed inside the hotel we did not feel welcome - it was not the feeling we usually have in Thailand. As soon as we have been outside the resort we enjoyed our holiday.
