Out of all the many islands and...
Out of all the many islands and mainland locations we visited in Thailand 'Railey'was on balance the best place we stopped off at:
- There's a very nice beach if your willing to walk for 10 minutes
- Amazing rock formations in every direction
- Trekking opportunities through the forested areas
- Clear water with plenty of marine life (however, when in the water - always keep one eye on the long tail boats flying very closly by!)
- Easy hire of kayaks for exploring further afield
- Very entertaining monkeys (best seen at 4pm to dusk)
Anyway, what about the hotel? Well it's best described as average. Having said that - what we found was all hotels around the Sand Sea Resort were clones of each other - all offering the same level of service.
In brief, the bad things about the Sand Sea were:
- Sewege smells would enter the bathroom though the untrapped drains
- Staff are not helpful (see if you can get one of the reception staff to move more than 6 feet from there desk !)
- Small Swimming Pool is full of children (and inflatable toys !)
- Breakfast consisted of yesterdays left-overs, with the addition of a few flys, and the omission of any proper cooking - The monkey's wouldn't even eat it!
The good things were:
- Hotel location
- Nice interior of rooms
Having said all that, please refer to the top of my review. Railey is a great place to visit, and staying at a place like Sand Sea Resort is just an unfortunate necesity you might have to experience along with it!
