fabulous setting, this hotel has the perfect location on the stunning Railay East beach.
my only gripe, which was my own fault really was that the fan room i selected was a little 'crummy' and outdated. looking back i should of paid the extra and gone for the more modern air-con rooms on the opposite side of the path.
food was really good but curiously this hotel and most of its neighbours do not stock or serve alcoholic drinks as they are muslim run hotels. strange to say the least.
all in all though, if you are on a tight budget, the fan bungalows are fine but dont expect the ritz, otherwise push the boat out a little and upgrade to an air-con up to date bungalow.

Comfortable but in need of facelift
The room was clean and spacious but dated. The overall complex was well kept and comfortable but on some points a bit old. The pool was very nice and the place was very quiet. Via Asiarooms.com the price/quality was good but when you pay the full price it is too expensive for what you get in return.

Overall very pleasant
Found the staff suitably friendly, not sure if it was particularly quiet but there was a lot of standing around going on. The food was pretty good, no complaints at least but did notice a distinct lack of alcohol available. We had to go to other resorts or restaurants to have alcohol with our meals. The room was good, we stayed in a standard AC room. We were welcomed by a few mosquitoes when we got in but it was only the first evening and a mosquito coil soon solved the problem. The pool is nice but found ourselves on the beach more.

EXCELLENT LOCATION BUT SHOULD BE ADVERTISED THAT IT IS A MUSLIM HOTEL THEREFORE WITH NO ALCOHOL BEVERAGES AND NO BACON/HAM AT BREAKFAST WHICH BY THE WAY WAS VERY POOR, OTHERWISE VERY PLEASANT.

We have stayed at Sand Sea Resort...
We have stayed at Sand Sea Resort twice - both trips were thoroughly enjoyable. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Breakfast is excellent wide choice of food something for everyone. The little gardens are well maintained with a fantastic smell of Jasmin in the evenings. The pool was clean with the pool attendant being very attentive and removing fallen leaves from the trees at least 2/3 times daily. The mini market/shop was a little disappointing not well stocked but it was June and low season. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

I stayed at the Sand & Sea...
I stayed at the Sand & Sea Resort in April 2009 for 3 nights, I must say I was concerned about booking this hotel based on the bad reviews left on various websites. I thought the Sand & Sea was okay, certainly not as bad as I was expecting. I booked the deluxe bungalow with A/C, I would not dare booking a fan room, as the whole Thailand is stinking hot. The room itself was a bit run down, and the bathroom towels were so old, I was scared I would rip it apart. Breakfast was as good as anywhere else in Thailand, with a selection of western food ( eggs, bred, cereal, fruit) and asian ( noodles, fried rice, stews). The egg cook was a bit slow, my only complaint - took ages to get my eggs. Overall the sand & sea is not a bad place to stay, considering Railay is quite of an expensive destination, other resorts on the west side cost a bit more. The east side is great for a night out, with more bars and restaurant options ( cheaper too!), would not stay there as there is only mangroves around. Railay is beautiful, if you are looking to chill out on the beach and watch the most beautiful sunset, you won't regret no matter where you stay.

Hotel is great and staff very friendly....
Hotel is great and staff very friendly. Bungalows are situated in a tropical garden at the beach. Location is just perfect. The room was a bit small, but we didn't spend much time there anyway. Overall I would recomend this hotel very much.

Real couples location, so for the single...
Real couples location, so for the single traveller can be a little lonely if you want to interact. Cant get a better spot for being on the beach. The air conditioned cabins are wonderful, modern and little a house unit. Dont go for the non-aircon - they look like garden sheds. But if you are a couple (even with a child) - very relaxed and i enjoyed my stay. hotels transfers are very expensive, see if you can share on your return journey - it cuts the costs considerably. The hotel is alcohol free and staff seem to lack luster.

Having read good reviews on this resort,...
Having read good reviews on this resort, my expectations were naturally higher. However, it was nothing more than average and the sandy bedsheets just made everything worse. Food at the restaurant was terrible, we ordered bbq fish, baked potatos and bbq vegetables. The food arrived either cold or lukewarm, as though they were standing out for ages. The bbq vegetables were hardly cooked... merely cut into a design and charred at the edges to show that they were placed on the grill. Breakfast was simply below average. Only good thing was that the resort was right at the beach.

We booked the resort while we were...
We booked the resort while we were still in England so when we arrived we couldn't beleive we were staying on the 'nice' side of Railay beach at one of the 'posh' resorts! The rooms really good, TV, fridge, mini bar, good bathroom. The pool at the resort is wonderful. All other amentities are good (internet & phone calls are expensive). Bad side: We got very sick from eating at the restaurant. We only ate at the restaurant in the resort so know that it was from here. We also heard that other people staying at the resort were sick as well. We advised the staff so hopefully they have cleaned up their kitchen because it put a real damper on an otherwise wonderful holiday.
