"We arrived quite late at night 11pm...."
We arrived quite late at night 11pm. Staff was great about getting us checked in and bringing us up to our room. Most difficult part is getting to the beach by long boat. They tried to charge us for an entire boat. Our room was set up with an extra bed for my 13 year old son as requested. Had a little trouble getting a blanket for him, they kept bringing us more towels. Place is nicely clean. Bathroom only with showers but lots for hot water. This beach is more suited to rock-climbers and divers. We went kayaking, swimming, hiking, and exploring. On the down side for the kids was a lack of a pool. The beach over (Riley) has nicer sand for kids but also much more tourists and just a quick walk away. We liked our beach for the nightly entertainment. Lots of backpackers. The food at the hotel was great. Best spot to watch rock climbing in the evening and enjoy a drink with appetizers or the buffet. Breakfast was good. Occ. they ran out of something but it was quickly replaced.

"Tonsai Bay is like stepping back in..."
Tonsai Bay is like stepping back in time to the hippie trippy days. It is a rock climbers heaven so everyone looks pretty toned and fit. there are not many older people around but there
are plenty at the beach around the corner. The hotel has rooms set in the bush but most are in pairs and look across at other ones so its a bit like a suburb but you are always out anyway so what the heck. The rooms are clean and really nice. You can only get there by long tialed boat which is a bit of a hassle at night .Just know it will cost 1000 baht. If the tide is out you have to walk through the mud to get to the boat but everyone is lovely and it's ok .There is an excellent wee restaurant on the corner and lots of "chill out"bars. Quite fun even for oldies like us.

"A wonderful, sympathetic place with a feeling..."
A wonderful, sympathetic place with a feeling of adventure. The beach isn't that nice but there are other beautiful beaches near. The place isn't easy to find which can be both bad and good. We would love to go there again once we have found it!

This resort overall is good and has plenty to offer.
However, if a water tap is provided at the challet will be good because there is no place to wash feet otherwise we will bring sand into the room.

"Having stayed at many resort type places..."
Having stayed at many resort type places in the world, with there big pools and many shops, it was a most pleasant surprize to go to a place that had the isolation of one of
those island communities you dream about or see in old movies. Although enough activities and tours to keep most people happy, for me it was a great place to take a couple of good books and relax on the beach, truly get away from it all. In the evening, dine and have a couple of drinks at one of the beach restaurant/bars, either at Tonsai or Railay beeches, chatting with locals or fellow travellers. In addition to all the usual holiday activities, Tonsai is a rock climbing resort, cattering for experts and those wanting to give it a go. Although not my bag, we did enjoy the internation climb competition that was on during our visit. For those who really want to get away from all, at a resonable price, its the place to be, I'll be back. Thanks to all on Tonsai for your hospitality Col & Oui a
