River Lodge has a beautiful facility, very nice rooms, large spacious bathrooms with well functioning facilities. The rooms were clean and nice. We stayed in a room over the pond and were very pleased. The grounds were clean and well manicured with many beautiful plants and flowers. The restaurant and bar were nice. Although I was very pleased with the physical facilities, I was disappointed in the level of service and quality of food. On arrival, we were told the dinner option was a buffet at a fixed charge (we later found out there was an ala carte menu). This meal was primarily "western food" fried chicken, spagetti, another pasta dish, some vegetable, and one "thai" dish that was very bland. It was difficult to get service at the table having to repeatedly ask for things and wait. Although the breakfast buffet was better the service was equally poor. On check out, it was confusing, having to go back three times to pay additonal items that were left off the invoice and to dispute additional items that were incorrect. After staying in several other small hotels in Thailand that had not received the " award of excellence" advertized by the River Lodge I was disappointed. This hotel seems better suited to serve the "bus tour" crowd i.e get them in and out. Again, 5 stars for the beautiful physical plant but they need alot of training for their staff. R. Scott
