Deeply disappointing!
The hotel website made this place look really interesting and unusual. We arrived and were shown to a room in a completely different building- next door to the main hotel in a renovated older-looking hotel/guesthouse building.
The room was very small and had recieved a superficial-looking makeover from its earlier years- cheap desk painted pink and a new bathroom with big rose-head shower and an odd transparent toilet cistern. However, the old tiles and floorcoverings hadn't been changed and it looked rather shabby. The sink wasn't properly attached to the wall and the safe inside the wardrobe didn't work. There was no sign of the advertised bathrobes or tea/coffee making facilities.
I arrived late and was only staying for one night so didn't bother to ask to change rooms. Tried the restaurant, Thai and Western food with mains in price range 100-250 baht. Decor and food was nice but contained very little meat compared to other, cheaper places I've eaten in Thailand. Staff were attentive, I don't think they saw many English-speaking guests but we worked around the language barrier.
Went to sleep despite the sound of dogs barking and howling in the compound outside my window. Woke up (early) to the same noise.
Breakfast was good, extensive selection of Asian and Western breakfast with attentive staff (who spoke better English).
Pool was OK- clean and tidy freeform with loungers but the paintwork of the surroundings was peeling. No towels were offered. Showered in the room where the big rose-head shower propmtly fell off the wall. Phoned reception who sent over the cleaner (no English) and a plumber (ditto). Reception then phoned back to say we'd have to shower in another room. This was four rooms further down the corridor.
Checked out and when asked if the room was OK, I said "No, very bad". This yielded a nervous giggle and smile from the receptionist. Given the language barrier (more evident here than most, but I guess Khorat doesn't see quite as many tourists) I felt pushing a complaint further was fruitless. There was no comment card available either.
I have stayed in much nicer hotels (in more popular areas) for much less than the cost of a room at V-one and would recommend to anyone else do the same.
