I'm probably the worst person to write a review because I build resorts and hotels so end up looking at little details....
Nova Gold is a little out of the way in a busy small soi, but not really an issue once you've found the place. There are a couple of good pubs very close by, so no need to go far if you just want a few drinks and a good feed and getting into the town is easy as there is a constant flow of tuk tuks, motorcycle taxis and baht busses passing the front door. We didn't need to use the complementary golf cart.
Check in was smoothly done within minutes and the staff very welcoming and polite. There is only one lift but we never waited more than a minute for it to get to the floor so, no issue. Also, it was easy enough running down the stairs so not really and issue at all.
Rooms are very clean, nice and big, decent size balcony, flat screen TV, DVD player and desktop computer in each room, a good plus.
Obviously it's a new place and there are a few issues that the management need to address.
We were travelling in a group, booked 5 rooms and the A/C didn't work properly in 3 of the rooms. Some of our group moved rooms 2 times until they found one with fully functioning A/C. Even when working, to keep the room cool meant running the A/C on full fan speed which was incredibly noisy and made it hard to sleep.
(A positive about this hotel is the staff, they were always understanding and changing rooms was not made into and issue)
The bad A/C has to be the biggest negative about this hotel, so Management, get it fixed, call a good A/C engineer, go through each room until each FCU is functioning properly!
Another issue that all of our group faced was that the wireless internet is free, great!!! erm, not really.. it is so unstable and once connected, so incredibly slow it was unusable. We resorted to using our mobile phones for connection!
Being a fairly new place there are a few operational issues that will probably be ironed out after a few more months, things like no one clearing plates left outside rooms (if you leave a plate out in the morning, it will remain there until the next morning!!), no issue really, just observations.
There are some issues that do need looking into by the developer; detailing can be terrible, definitely not to an international standard.
The shower kerb is on the wrong side of the glass door and pushes the water flowing down the door out into the room. We spend our entire stay having to paddle around the bathroom!
The bathroom ceiling isn't made from waterproof board and isn't fixed using the correct type of nail. The board is damp and has started to fall away from the fixings. It won't be long before parts of the ceiling collapse.
Refrigerator runs hot due it being fitted into a small box (a common fault in so many hotels). Although I'm an Englishman, I hate warm beer!!!
A final whinge, why oh why in this modern age do developers not insist on mutli region electrical outlets, eliminating the need for adaptors?
In summary, despite the negatives mentioned, the staff were always polite and helpful and hotel as a whole has a nice feeling, colourful and clean.
The Nova Gold is a nice place to stay and if we are back in Pattaya, we would probably stay there again.
We'd recommend it for couples and families and the hotel is as good as others costing double the price.
