On the 15th of February 2010, whilst guests of this hotel, we were robbed. We had gone out for a meal in the evening and when we came back, some 3 hours later, I noticed right away that my laptop was missing. On further inspection, we discovered that a large sum of money as well as my MP3 player, Rayban sunglasses and a new bottle of Boss aftershave had also walked. The lock on my Samsonite suitcase had also been forced open. There was no sign of forced entry to the room (the balcony door - 5th floor- was still secure)therefore, whoever robbed us, used a key.
Management could not have cared less. Their initial reaction was to blame an African- American couple who had checked out that day. I was able to prove, however, after reviewing the hotel's security video footage, that this couple had left the hotel prior to us having left our room to go out, and therefore before we were robbed. They next tried to blame any other foreign guest, and when I pointed out that a key must have been used, they told me that many forign guests can make or carry keys with them to do this. Incredibly, they also offered to see if they could find our things in the rooms of other guests.
There appears to be only one entrance/exit from this hotel, however the security man saw nothing. When reviewing the security camers footage, it was noticable that many portions were overlooked, and skipped through. I did notice, however, that the securtiy guard was prone to leaving his post and going upstairs on the lift.
The next morning we checked out of this place, as we had no wish to lose any more of our things. I talked to the manager before we left, he seemed to think that as I had insurance then everything was OK. I had the sistinct impression that this was not the first time, nor will it be the last, that this kind of thing has occured at this establishment. Be warned!!!!
