This hotel looks very swish - it is indeed very arty. But the pool is tiled in brown and most uninviting, the staff are not helpful, the food (breakfast only) is not good. They don't offer lunch or dinner ( a hotel in peak season?) they say they give vouchers for the restaurant at sister hotel but none were given. I would not recommend and regret spending my money staying there. I had a problem with family in flooded Bangkok and needed to change my booking - they were most unhelpful and didn't seem to realize the disaster taking place in their own country. Think very hard before booking here - there are plenty of other hotels in Phuket - hopefully friendlier, better value and make for a more pleasant holiday

Great value for money
Lovely modern, clean and spacious hotel with nice pools. Because there are so many pools, the chances of you having one all to yourself is pretty good. It's on a hill so not the best for those with difficulty walking but it's not much of a problem for an average person (you might just break out into a sweat). Close to the beach and the main Kata street and shops (all within 5 minutes walk). There is free wi-fi in the hotel and computer terminals in the lobby.
3 nights for only $200SGD - grand pool access room
First time going to Phuket and I understand that there were a lot of hotels to choose. Managed to arrow down to a few hotel choices based on the friends and internet reviews. In the end, we booked Sugar Palm Grand Hillside, Pool access room.
When we were there, we passed by a lot of hotels and I can gladly say I love this resort that we have booked. I love the minimalist design,, the room is big and equipped with the necessary technology. Perhaps it's a habit, I need to stay connected at most times and everywhere at the resort, you are accessible to wifi and the signal is very strong. The pool is right outside so we can always go in for a dip whenever we want and throughout my 4 day stay there, we did not need to share the pool with other rooms. Although the walk up is pretty difficult as the slope is very steep, that means you enjoy more privacy because you are higher up.
Some of the reviews I have seen stated that the staff attitude are not fantastic. True enough, it might not be the best service standard but think about it again, you are not paying a few hundred per night for a room so you cannot possible expect a club med kind of service standard. Overall, the staff are very polite and helpful to our requests, am very satisfied about it.
The variety of food for breakfast is not a lot but the items were tasty.

Wonderful Stay!!!
Was a bit hesitate and worried when booking this hotel for my holiday as there were couple of bad reviews left on TA but am glad that I took a plunge on it.
My partner love the place upon arrival. Despite locating on top of a hill, it was no problem for both of us since we are fit and healthy. Initial the front desk personnel wanted to give us a low floor, 2nd, but after we request for a high floor, it was granted. The porter assisted us in transporting our luggage and provide us a free ride to our hotel room. Please note the buggy service is only meant for transporting luggage and for elderly people, it is not a must provide service to all guest staying there. So please do not complain much if you choose a high floor but there are also lifts available so don't worry.
The room was huge and minimistic appointed, the unfinished concrete walls and floor give it a contemporary touch to the overall deco. For the bathroom, there is a seperated shower cubicle and also a super huge bath tub. The bed is comfortable although a tab soft but overall acceptable. Wide range of TV channels available in the room LCD screen, they also provide DVD player in the room (free movie could be loaned from the lobby). There is also a day bed in the room and also an attached balcony for chilling. In addition, there is a big fridge and free WiFi in the room.
There are many cascading infinity pools in the hotel but I usual swim and tan at the pool next to the pool side bar as it is the biggest for doing my laps. There is a mini gym down the staircase next to the hotel tour agent but didn't utilize it. For the beach lover, the hotel is only 5 mins walk to the beautiful Kata beach. For the buffet breakfast, the variety is not much, with some minor change everyday but fine for a hearty meal.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at Sugar Palm Grand Hillside and will definitely stay there again. My only feedback is that the staff should smile more to brighten the day of all guests.

Love this hotel!
This is our second visit to this hotel. As usual the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms is brilliant. The staff are very accomodating and are willing to go out of their way to help. We had a minor setback when the hot water was not working but the staff profusely apologised and even sent us a fruit basket to appease our inconvenience. The breakfast is great with a wide array of foods to satisfy. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, although if you have children you may request a room on one of the lower floors. I look forward to my next visit at Sugar Palm, which I hope won't be too far away.
Very wonderful place to stay at Kata!
My & my wife have a wonderful stay at Sugar Palm Grand Hillside for our honeymoon, and we're very satisfied with the room and the services. The hotel room that we reserved was Grand Sea View Room, and it's so nice, so clean, a modern room, with a very beautiful view from the room, clearly we can see the ocean. And it's not far at all to go the beach, less than 5 minutes! and the beach is also beautiful. Everything is so perfect, definitely we'll recommended to our friends & family, & also we'll coming back to this hotel for sure when we're going to Phuket again. Just keep the services & maintenance well, so that everyone will be satisfied when they're staying at this hotel.
Sugar Palm Grand
Lovely place with friendly staff and good facilities. The pools are beautiful, the views great and the rooms clean and well appointed. 5 minutes slow stroll to the beach, everything at your fingertips. Don't book your tours here tho as they can't/won't budge from the list price - going just down the street will get you much cheaper prices.
Across the soi from Sugar Palm Grand Hillside is Orchid Restaurant 3 that has some great food at competitive (re: Cheap) prices.
A real highlight for us though was this little shop toward the bottom of the Soi (just up from the tailors) run by a guy named Sam who was super friendly and offered great prices for his stuff right off the bat with no bartering required - trust me I was amazed and relieved that I was getting prices that I would haggle over for 5 minutes straight away. He also gave great tips for what to pay at other shops for stuff he didn't stock.
