Stayed in a beach front deluxe suite...
Stayed in a beach front deluxe suite and would recommend these cottages only - some of the hillside cottages, along with the property in general, are a little tired. The sitting room / second bedroom in the beach front deluxe is adequate and has its own flat screen TV, as does the main bedroom. The beach is private, shared only with Amanpuri. I wouldnt pay the rack rates for the property, although the prices along the cost are relatively high for asian beach destinations. Would defintely stay again.

Would definately stay here again on a cheap rate but not worth the usual "rack rate" prices. The rooms were small and very tired, and the bathrooms extremely average. Think it is about time the owners spent some $$ on updating it a bit. Positives were the service, location and beach!

I guess it was not a right...
I guess it was not a right season to stay at Chedi hotel on the rainy summer time. The best benefit for people staying there might be the beach which seems to be much private and calm, and I guess it gives best airs to the honeymooners or calm-vacation-seekers. However, we couldn't get the right airs at the roaring beach, and it was also not much convenient to go to the downtown which was chosen as the alternative of the beach; it was expensive to take the limo solely provided by the hotel while having no chance to take tuk-tuk or any other budget transportations. If I choose to go Phuket again, I'd visit the hotel only in the dry 'winter' season to get crazy about the beach not thinking of any other alternatives.

I booked a studio beach cottage and...
I booked a studio beach cottage and a 2 bedroom beach cottage for 6 of us. Firstly the 2 bedroom beach cottage is not a 2 bedroom, but only a one bedroom with a day bed in the other room. Was not happy when I arrived. AsiaRooms fixed it up quickly when we arrived. Basically the problems with this hotel is - it wants your money without the smile! I have never been to a hotel where I wanted to leave after the first day of staying 4 nights. This place is for romantics and no body else. Everyone else chose something else which is better value and at least has some service. As for the location - the hotel only provides one bus to Patong Beach at 9pm (after you have spent your money eating at the hotel) - it is a good 25-30mins to Patong Beach - but trust me you will get bored of it quickly - Cheaper stuff in Chiang Mai or BKK. There are a lot of steps to get to your bunglow (either on the beach or in the Hill!). What sums this place up is - they rely on the location and being only one or two places which have bungalows. If you want value for your money do not stay here. If you want to stay in your room all the time with your partner then it is great! There is little near the hotel - so try and stay a little closer to Patong Beach or stay at a better 5 star hotel where you will get service for your money and the Thai Smile! Wish I had not stayed here - but the 2 bedroom beach Bunglow I was in was fanastic for newly weds! But it was really only a 1 bedroom bungalow...

There is nothing as such wrong with...
There is nothing as such wrong with the Chedi, except that it seems that it's time had come and gone 10 years ago. The bungalows are nice but having to move around on concrete built walkways and stairs removes a little from the charm of a tropical 'sanctuary' on the beach. The thing that we though somewhat ruined the experience is the decor and setup of the other services at the hotel. The breakfast/restaurant area is not befit of a hotel that charges up to 500 usd a night for a beach bungalow as it has a very dated appearance to it and choice at breakfast is that of a bed and breakfast as far as we were concerned. The pool, although nice on pictures, is not kept clean enough but most importantly is just too hot on warm days, such that it hardly offers any refreshement from the heat. Furthermore the service around the pool and beach is non exsitent. ON the beach local children offer to get u drinks etc.. and while this is endearing for a true luxury hotel one would expect first class service anywhere one is at the hotel. At least our experiences in other asian luxury hotels had never left us wanting for 1st class attention from the staff. In short the chedi seems a bizare mix of a hotel. The deluxe bungalow we stayed in was nice (but we'd get the superior now could we choose), but the main area's decor, service and just general ambience was not that of a true asian luxury hotel. So for the price there are far better alternatives in asia. If you get a real deal with one of the hillside bungalows, I guess it's a decent hotel, but then you have to be aware that getting to/from the room will become a bit of pain because of the vast network of steep stairways.

The hotel location and view are quite good. The beach is amazing but the beach young sellers are a little bit bored. The SPA is not good. I had the worst treatment massage that I ever had. Globally is fine and you can enjoy your stay.

The Chedi Phuket is a lovely hotel,...
The Chedi Phuket is a lovely hotel, Its set away from the main tourist areas of Patong and the other beach resorts so it is far less hectic than other hotels. It is however only a short taxi ride away from Patong for the trips to the very cheap shops and restaurants. On arrival they take care of your luggage and check you in giving you a nice cool drink, perfect after a long flight and taxi ride. We had booked a normal room cottage but were upgraded for free to a two room cottage. The rooms were very clean, modern and comfortable with wooden floors and proper windows as well as shutters. The air conditioning was ideal to keep the temperature down at night and was also quiet enough to sleep with it on. Outside the room was a balcony looking out to sea with sun loungers and an umbrella for shade. There were however two problems with the room firstly that the shower looked a little tired, mainly because of the tiles but it was clean and usable nonetheless. Secondly our room was pretty much as far away from the lobby and the beach etc as possible, seeing as it is build up a hill we had to walk up a seemingly endless set of steps it was hard enough for a couple in their mid twenties in the hottest part of the day let alone older people! The restaurants were nice and they brought around cool towels during lunch as it was very hot. The food cost more than most of the restaurants in Phuket however it was very nice. There is a small library for people who like reading with the days papers available which is a bit of a sanctuary out of the sun. The beach is lovely, a small bay only shared with another hotel of simliar nature and with their own loungers there is no charge as on the other beaches in Phuket. The sea is nice and warm although it can be a little rough and gets deep quite quickly. It is free from the normal sellers aparts from a few selling drinks, massages and ice creams cheaper than the hotels however they do not give the hard sell and come round every 5 minutes as the other beaches tend to do. The swimming pool is jet black and looked inviting although we did not use it and plenty of children were in and having a good time. Overall the hotel was a little bit of luxury in a hectic part of the world and in complete contrast to another hotel we stayed at in Phuket before moving to the Chedi for the end of our holiday.
