The Chedi Phuket is a lovely hotel,...
The Chedi Phuket is a lovely hotel, Its set away from the main tourist areas of Patong and the other beach resorts so it is far less hectic than other hotels. It is however only a short taxi ride away from Patong for the trips to the very cheap shops and restaurants.
On arrival they take care of your luggage and check you in giving you a nice cool drink, perfect after a long flight and taxi ride. We had booked a normal room cottage but were upgraded for free to a two room cottage. The rooms were very clean, modern and comfortable with wooden floors and proper windows as well as shutters. The air conditioning was ideal to keep the temperature down at night and was also quiet enough to sleep with it on. Outside the room was a balcony looking out to sea with sun loungers and an umbrella for shade. There were however two problems with the room firstly that the shower looked a little tired, mainly because of the tiles but it was clean and usable nonetheless. Secondly our room was pretty much as far away from the lobby and the beach etc as possible, seeing as it is build up a hill we had to walk up a seemingly endless set of steps it was hard enough for a couple in their mid twenties in the hottest part of the day let alone older people!
The restaurants were nice and they brought around cool towels during lunch as it was very hot. The food cost more than most of the restaurants in Phuket however it was very nice.
There is a small library for people who like reading with the days papers available which is a bit of a sanctuary out of the sun.
The beach is lovely, a small bay only shared with another hotel of simliar nature and with their own loungers there is no charge as on the other beaches in Phuket. The sea is nice and warm although it can be a little rough and gets deep quite quickly. It is free from the normal sellers aparts from a few selling drinks, massages and ice creams cheaper than the hotels however they do not give the hard sell and come round every 5 minutes as the other beaches tend to do.
The swimming pool is jet black and looked inviting although we did not use it and plenty of children were in and having a good time.
Overall the hotel was a little bit of luxury in a hectic part of the world and in complete contrast to another hotel we stayed at in Phuket before moving to the Chedi for the end of our holiday.
