This is a good hotel, with some...
This is a good hotel, with some great features, at a good price. The breakfast was good and the help was very friendly. I had a deluxe room in the Royal Wing, overlooking the wonderful pool area. The bathroom was great, with a large bathtub that overlooked the room through an open window, allowing you to watch television while bathing. The beds were great, set up on a wooden platform above a beautiful tile floor. All of this was unfortunately accompanied by a musty smell in the room, which was surprising as I was on the fifth floor. I'm assuming this is what remains of the Tsunami damage.
The other issue was while the hotel itself was in good condition, musty smell nonwithstanding, the surrounding Paradise complex was not. It looked like a small ghetto that was in desperate need of repair. Hard to say if this was because of the Tsunami, or if this was simply third-world decay, as some of the disrepair was four stories up. My other concern was when I woke up in the middle of my last night there to use the bathroom, I found the counter covered with tiny bugs, looking like crabs or minature ants. I was immediately worried about bed bugs, but fortunately didn't see any on the bed nor had any bites afterwards. While I don't regret staying at the Royal Paradise, I'd probably stay closer to the beach next time, probably at the Holiday Inn, as that's a much nicer hotel.
