Only dead coral to be seen snorkelling
Disappointed that it wasn't made clear that the coral is all dead within snorkelling range.
the resort description also doesn't tell you that the power routinely goes off twice a day for a couple of hours each time. There was no hot water in our room or the rooms of any of the other people we met that we were also staying there, and the water in the taps is very salty
( ? Seawater). Don't try and wash your hair ! We stayed for three nights which was too long given the poor quality of the food at the resort ( nothing else available on the island). Unless you were up at the the time breakfast started serving, all you could get was the dregs and it was cold ( and a good source of "the runs" due to the fact it was sitting around for hours). Many of the dishes on the menu and cocktails weren't available as they said they had run out of ingredients.
the resort transfer cost for the return 15 minute speedboat trip across to the island was overpriced at 2,000 baht ( a$60) for the two of us, especially as we had to fit in with the staff transfers to and from the mainland.
our room, a bungalow on the beachfront, was very basic and could have been better maintained...torn flyscreens, louvres that didn't close properly, fortunately it did have a room safe.
take your own tea, coffee sugar and tetra-packed milk as the supplies in the rooms are limited to sachets and only enough for one cup per person a day and they are charged for .
staff were pleasant enough, but the restaurant service we received was poor as there were large groups of tourists who, although seated after us, had their orders taken and received their meals before us.
we took our own snorkelling gear, but i suspect anyone hiring it at the resort would have paid a fortune for it. Take along some bananas as they're great for feeding the fish while you're snorkelling.
overall not good value for the cost, and the name coral island is deceptive.
