This hotel is too far from the centre of activities- it's about 15 mins walk to the beach and 20 mins walk to the center of shopping. It's ok if u are into keeping fit but when your hands are carrying your shopping load, it is very tiring to walk back in the blistering heat. The tut tuts charge a min of 150 baht to get from town to the Deevana Resort & Spa. Late at night the charges are higher. When they see you carrying so many things, they are less inclined to bargain. For the price of this hotel, you would be happier staying elsewhere.
We have stayed at much cheaper hotels of the same rating in various places around the world. This was the first time that we encountered no hot water at the wash basin. On our first night, after we returned from an entire day of walking and shopping, we discovered the shower had erratic hot water flow. The drainer at the shower was also blocked. Had to stand in soapy water. That was 1am! Called housekeeping. They could not understand the problem. Called reception. COMMUNICATING IN ENGLISH WAS A BIG HEADACHE.
To make the long story short, they sent five people to our room before they decided to move us to another room late next morning. Needless to say we were exhausted and exasperated. The second room also had the same erratic hot shower and blocked drainer in the shower stall. Erratic hot water flow appeared to be the norm in this hotel and nothing can be done about it. They fixed the blocked drainer later in the day. But we were informed there's no hot water at the wash basin in all the rooms.
In all fairness, the staff were polite throughout the ordeal. Service was OK. They did try to rectify the problem. For a hotel that deals with so many English speaking tourists, it's incredulous that no staff at this hotel was really conversant in English.
We moved to another hotel right on the beach and on the main road, Thaweewong Road for our last 2 days. It wasn't much more expensive than Deevana. No regrets.
Breakfast came with the rooms at both hotels. Bring your own St. Dalfour as we noticed jams at the few 3 & 4 star hotels we visitied were very very sweet banana jam, coconut jam and strawberry FLAVOURED gelatin. No peanut butter.
For the price we paid, there are plenty other hotels nearer to Thaweewong Road.
