I stayed 5 nights in the Graceland Resort - I had booked a grand deluxe seaview room - which turned out to be a suite-like accomodation, but the seaview was very limited (no direkt view).
Overall the furniture and design of the room was not quite, what I expected from a self-declared 5-star resort. Actually I would give the hotel a 3star+ rating. As the hotel was fully booked, difficulties occured when entering the breakfast area. Also the service during breakfast was very weak, it took ages until you got your coffee, used plates were removed very late - or not at all...
The hotel is situated at the north end of Patong beach, but still the centre is in easy walking distance. They have two swimming-pool areas, one in the garden earea facing the beach and one more secluded on the first floor of the main building, which I preferred, as it was less crowded.
Fotos of the hotel in the internet and catalogues give you a much more luxurious impression, than the actual one you get, when staying there.
A lot of details need maintenance and I have seen much nicer places to stay during my holiday on Phuket.
Therefore I will definitely stay at another hotel, when returning to Phuket.

On my previous visit to Phuket this hotel was receiving it's finishing touches.I had a look around and thought how stunning this property was and could not wait to return and stay at the Graceland Resort.
The pools are beautiful and the main pool is huge and only has the beach road between it and the beach.The second pool which is set back from the beach road is elevated above the restaurant and looks down over the main pool and over the beach(this pool is particularly good for watching the sunset).
Unfortunately after the pools everything else was a let down& I soon learn't that you can't judge a book by it's cover!
The rooms are new but do not come with a king size bed (we had a queen and single,Grand delux sea view room).The bathroom was well designed and a good size but the tiles and fittings (as with the room) were disappointing and lowered the general quality of the rooms.
Breakfast was very average for a property of this advertised quality and like with everything else in the Hotel nobody seemed to know what they were doing.
Good management and staff training is lacking at the Graceland and ordering something from room service or requesting items from housekeeping can become an ordeal as your call is passed from one employee to another (sometimes up to 5 times) before someone understands your request.
The rooms have no compendium, instead there is a A4 piece of paper with hotel information printed on it.There are also no guest feedback forms-but with more and more tourists form mainland China flooding into South East Asian resort areas,I suppose they don't really care what we think!
I like the location, not as far north as the Novotel but still quieter than other locations and within easy walking distance of the main entertainment areas.
Now knowing what to expect I probably would return, without the high expectations but still the desire to dive into the beautiful swimming pool.

The property itself is great, huge pool, facing the sea and convenient location. However hardly any one understands English, had a hard time communicating with the staff. Response for enquiries were very slow, we had ring or ask at least twice each time. Very disappointed.
Most of all, they don't have ADSL connection there, how could I be relaxed there if I lost track of my business.....so surely not recommended to any business men who still wish to be connected.

No room connection for our building (this what they said to us after we were struggling for 3 days on using a modem supplied by the hotel).

This is a new hotel, therefore rooms, facilities etc are still in tip top condition. Location is good for those who wants to be slightly further away from the phuket crowd as you may have to walk about 10-15 mins to central of patong. The beach is directly across the hotel, need to just cross the road. Swimming pool is facing the sea but it's blocked by a concrete wall/fence. Do note that ONLY the suites will have direct seaview. The deluxe/superior seaview rooms etc etc featured will only have a side seaview, and it's covered by trees, you dont see much of the sea. Therefore it may not be worth the price to pay the difference. A deluxe garden view would do, same facing, a block away. Breakfast is rather boring other than the standard(bread, eggs, ham) there's not much changes and mostly vegetable and noodles dishes. Lastly, all the positive factors that were mentioned was erased by the fact that I had never been to a hotel with worse service. Even a budget hotel would have better service. You need to get the attention of bellboys before they will come forward. There's no one greeting you at the door, because there's simply no one there. Lobby customer service is still passable(although without a smile) if you have no extra question or help required, their standard answer is "I dont know". There's no service at the restaurant where you have breakfast. Basically, you get in, get your own seat and have your breakfast. You may not even get to see any waitress around, neither do they collect any breakfast voucher, anyone is able to get in for a free meal. Good for a no fuss breakfast though......
Internet caused a huge problem. Had make it clear in my request that I need a room with internet connection. Upon arrival, was told that they ran out of modem, if I will need to use it in the lobby first then I need to pay about US$7 for 30 mins of usage. Daily usage in the room is about US$13. After much hunting/chasing them, I finally get my modem. But to my greatest disappoint, the modem couldnt work as was told that the building that I was staying in could not have proper broadband access due to some problems!!!!!
Were there for 9 days, had to stop my encounters now although there's much more for me to write....
Go for it, if you do not need internet access and prefer zero service, it is after all a nice new hotel!!!

We stayed in Gracelands January 2006, the Hotel offered extremely good facilities with the pools being the best we have seen in Thailand. We had a Deluxe Sea view room with a nice view of the pool and beach. The position of the Hotel is at the start of Patong Beach and across a small road. The main night life and shopping is about 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel but there are loads of cheap hop on taxi driving up and down the beach road.
The hotel had a excellent 6 lane ten pin bowling facility that was open all day and provided good entertainment for kids.
The only down side to this hotel was that the whole staff were awful, it was as if they had just taken people of the street and not given them any training in customer care or even told them what their responsibilities were. This must reflect the management of the hotel so I found complaining about it pointless.
Apart from this if you are looking for facilities over good service this is a good choice.

The Graceland hotel itself is most definetly a 5 star property. The staff on the other hand should be working at 1 star hotels. I went to get taxis in the lobby 2 times during my visit and had to wake the attendant up both times(daytime)The pool supposidly has a bar and services 7am to 7 pm, well the week we were there i think they never stayed there till 7pm. One day at 4 pm i asked for a drink and the waiter said to me to go in the hotel in my bathing suit and get 1 myself. The first day I got there the rest. staff were all upside down and service was terrible, but on day 2 I noticed a manager in there and things went a bit better as the week went on. Another thing that I found strange was that not once during my week stay did anyone open a door for me or my wife. Anywhere I went in Phuket people were opening doors seating me down and just very polite people. All in all if the hotel staff were trained better and the hotel did more to promote itself, like advertise in the restaraunt in the morning, because everyone eats breakfast there(very good breakfast). If I go back to Phuket I would try the Graceland again and I hope they take my review as a learning tool, not as just bad critism.
