An affair with ants
The hotel is located on a 150m steep slope. Though shutter service is provided, the timing is very limited. Thus, not suitable for old folks since taking taxi or tuk tuk is very expensive(kata area is territory of local taxi co.) The service staffs at the lobby are very friendly and helpful. Hotel room is big and beautiful and it has either a pool view or sea view at the balcony. But ants is everywhere. They are all over my clothes that I left on the mirrior table, my luggage bag and on my clothes which I hang on the hanging rack. This is the only MaJOR disappointment i had with the hotel. The rest is still good. At times, you may find insects on your bed. The swimming pool area is nice and you can get a good tanned out of it though. Not to mention the gaming room that has a table tennis table and a pool table.

Lovely hotel with great service
The hotel was great, the service was excellent on the whole (a potential misunderstanding over billing was averted because the Guest Relation officer, Matilda acted on our feedback) and our stay there was a pleasant one.
The location is a drawback as it is not easy to zip in and out of the hotel on a whim. The hill is very steep though it is a short climb up. We had a spacious family room with a balcony that faced a concrete wall- not kidding, so dont accept room 432 if a view is important to you.
Staff making up the room did not do so until late in the afternoon and did not replenish toiletries, floor mats or towels. But housekeeping was prompt in supplying us when we rang in our requests. On our last day we checked out at 6pm (extra 1500b charge for this) but the room was not made up at all.
Food at the breakfast buffet was varied and tasty. The restaurant at dinner was deserted and the food overpriced and below expectations. We checked in at 11 at night and room service was not available. But the night manager sent someone who actually went out to buy food for us (from another hotel!). We were very touched by the gesture as our child did not go to bed hungry.
We barely used the pool and spa but the games room and library were fine.
It was clear that Avista was putting in much effort to keep the guests happy. The shuttle service to Patong and kata beach was useful but can be more frequent. The taxi service outside the hotel was used by us to hire a (overpriced) driver for 6 hours and that fellow wanted to take us to some jewellery shops!Rather irritating that. Dont use them. Just take the time to walk down a short distance and make enquiries at the agents by the road. Avista should ditch this taxi service.

Excellent!
You will not go wrong with this resort! The rate is affordable and the room is spacious. I like every detail in the room: There is a microwave, iron & ironing board. Toilet is huge and beautiful, with separate bathtub & shower point. I would say staying 4 persons in a room is possible. The facilities are sufficient, there is a nice pool, game room & mini-library. Their restaurant serves v. nice food, but the portion is rather small. Location is wonderful, 3 min walk to the beach and town area. The only problem is that you have to climb up a very very steep slope before reaching the resort.

We stayed at Avista for 9 nights...
We stayed at Avista for 9 nights in August 2010 with our two boys, 5 and 9 years in age. Our children had not travelled overseas previously and our choice of country and hotel was to allow them to enjoy a cultural experience while not compromising their enjoyment by being accommodated in a hotel whose quality was below that experienced at home. Avista certainly allowed us to achieve these goals. Before booking the room at Avista we had read many of the reviews available on the internet so we were aware of any concerns of prior visitors. Personally, we found the steepness of the hill a benefit for daily exercise and the elevation of the hotel away from the noise of bikes/tuk tuks also allowed us to enjoy the view of Kata beach. The Kids Club is small but we didn't use this facility as we wanted to spend time as a family. If you are looking for a family holiday where you can outsource childcare then this facility may not be ideal for you. There is a games room at the hotel with ping-pong, soccer and pool table which kept us entertained away from the pool. We cannot fault the service provided by staff. They were always friendly and helpful. Obviously there is a slight language barrier if your primary language is English, however for us this was part of the appeal of travelling to another country. Finally, we should mention that we had a medical emergency while staying at the hotel and the service provided by management and staff was second to none. We were transferred to the hospital and supported by a staff member of the hotel. Upon return to the hotel the staff were supportive and kind. We would highly recommend this hotel.

All the staff are very friendly, the room are great (mine with ocean view) but the only concern is the location. For those who like shopping, the hotel provide one way transfer to Patong Shopping centre (Juanceylon). But the way back has to be your own & taxi from patong back to hotel cost 350-400B. Taxi cost from airport to hotel cost about 750B. The hotel is also nice enough to provide transfer from Kata Beach. They have free internet for customer at the lobby & library.

This hotel is great. With 3 stars pricing I got 5 stars hotel. The breakfast is more than I expected. The room is nice especialy the king size bed and the big LCD TV. Besides, the room has RMVB player (It is suprising me because I did bring my own RMVB player to watch movie). I got a pool view room and it is also facing to a sea view. The bathroom is quite clean, probably due to the hotel is still new. I will come back again.

Located on a steep hill. There is a transportation service, but better would be to rent a scooter to switch more freely from beach to room, otherwise it's a good training to walk up the hill. The staff is service-minded and friendly, the breakfast is nothing special, but for a stay of a week fair enough. The pool over two floors is probably a nice playground for kids after a day on the beach, for the whole day the area is a bit to narrow. There are libary and fitnessroom. Good for people, who like to explore the island in the daytime, quit in the night.

The room is big and nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. There's a kid's club on the premises too, nice little play room. Pool can be improve with a little more shady trees...over the pool.. Main disadvantage is the location - up on a steep hill (which most kata hotels are). They do provide shuttle service to patong and karon beaches. It will be good if they can provide shuttle just up and down the steep slope..the hotel area is dominated by a single taxi service so if you don't have your own transport, you have to use them.
