Disgusting beach
Stayed at the Novotel for two nights. The hotel itself is pleasant and clean with a lovely pool area. Sadly it is 30 minutes in a cab from Rayong and in the middle of nowhere - good if that is what you want of course but bad if you are looking to do anything much apart from laze by the pool.
The staff were unhelpful when I requested a later checkout - to the point of lying to me about the hotel being full that day (which it wasn't). Also the beach is pretty grim, I certainly wouldn't have poked my toe in the water there for fear of contracting some horrible disease or bumping into a used nappy or something. Ugh.
Good place to go for pool, peace and hotel food. Although, the restaurant across the road is better, in my opinion.

the only very annoying feature of this hotel was the charge made for WiFi use - not only do they charge but also have a very complicated menu of charges.
In the modern day and age this service should be included - I have stayed in hotels all over the world, some charging a third of the room rate but including free WiFi.
If I had noticed this in Asia Rooms description I would probably have searched further afield.
Otherwise, lovely hotel and service, but very expensive food and beverages with the exception of a few special offers.
A general comment for ALL hotels - I have ageing eyesight and seldom find a bathroom with a mirror with adequate lighting.

We enjoyed our stay, but we were disapointed with the beach which was dirty, the room was ok but smelt a bit musty, the staff we helpful and the food was very good

Novotel Rayong was a pleasant suprise. We had one of our best weekend in Bangkok. I just loved the beach, big, clean and nice blu sea water. Many activities can be organized right here (swim with the dolphins, snorkeling, a trip to Koh Samet, and more). The 3 pools are nicely designed and one has a jacuzzi for hotel guests with hot water. They are set in a fantastic manicured garden full of flowers. The playground area for the children is very convenient and we think we will go to stay soon again.
The staff are very attentive but discrete and the spa is to take advantage, they have great deals and the massages were to die for.

nice hotel, very nice and big pools. the main building is less then 100 meter from the beach. the pool is 20 meter from the beach. food in the restaurants are a little bit expensive for thailand, but very good.

A very nice hotel with a beautiful garden. Fine and clean pools and enough of sunchairs around the pool. The beach is clean with a few nice restaurants along the beach. It would be nice if the hotel could arrange more transportations during the day into Ban Phe, now one early in the morning and one at noon. I would not eat every night at hotel thats expensive with a family of five. Nice trips are arranged by hotel but even they are quite expensive for a family of five, familyprices would be nice. Not so much to do in the evening, walking along beach after dinner and early to bed.Very good breakfast something for everyone.Excellent hotel for seniors, couples and families with small children, maybe not the best one for teenagers even if mine enjoyed their stay.No shopping not so much to do outside hotel, means a real holiday,you can allways stay in Bangkok on your trip home.
Good hotel, but far away from everything....
Good hotel, but far away from everything. No services or shops nearby. Only hotel services (which are quite expensive) and a few bars on the beach. Ken's bar (Risubaari) can be recommended! The nearest village is 7 kms away. Free hotel shuttle to the village twice a day. The hotel is expensive and the room was quite small and standard quality and small balcony and the view was to the backyard. View to the pool or sea would have been better. The room was not good value for money. However, the hotel surroundings, pool area and the beach are beautiful. Everything was clean and cared for. Very nice and romantic surroundings. The hotel serves buffet dinner on evenings outside in the garden and around the pool. This hotel suits for couples and families with children, if you like quiet and relaxing stay and do not need shopping, activities or nightlife. You can go to Pattaya for shopping and nightlife, but it is 70 kms away (1 hour travel). Very recommended to visit Koh Samet island, if you stay in this hotel. You can take a speed boat in front of the hotel (20 minutes to Koh Samet). The hotel arranges other trips also to nearby destinations.
