GREAT VALUE!!! Location is peaceful and right across the street from a very nice beach indeed. As soon as you cross the street, you're on the beach. This hotel is south of Rayong City and very very quiet compared to Pattaya. At times, I was the only one on the beach although there were several dozen chairs and umbrellas there. On the beach, you have the option of sitting on chairs under umbrellas. However, to get to the beach, pass through a row of tall ironwood tree which provides very welcome shade on a hot day. The ocean water was clean, much cleaner than at Pattaya. During my stay, there was a nice and steady ocean breeze that made things cool and pleasant in the shade. There was some flotsam and trash on the beach, but it made it seem more like you were a castaway on a remote island somewhere.
Regarding the hotel - There seemed to be very low occupancy even when I was there on a Saturday and the beach had a very private feel as a result. I paid extra for the Executive Room which cost 1050 baht, but I would have been very happy with the 700 baht priced room. The Executive Room was huge with a king bed, dining table and sofa and had a very nice ocean view from the 7th floor. There are no other buildings nearby so no one can see into your window. For an even better view, ask for a higher room so you can see over the tops of the ironwood trees on the beach in front of the hotel. Room cleanliness was fine for me, although the furniture was a bit old. Floors were tile, so were easy for the staff to keep clean. The bathroom was a bit dark, but clean. There was a balcony but the large heat exchanger for the room air conditioner was mounted there which made it noisy and too warm to enjoy it.
Food and entertainment - The free breakfast was fine but not fancy. Did not try the hotel restaurant but the prices and selection looked good. There was just one beach vendor across the street on the beach selling beer and food. There were also a couple of mini-marts selling drinks and limited goods next to the hotel. Very relaxing to be there. Finding reasonable transportation was challenging in Rayong, so keep this in mind. The hotel truck/car to Rayong City was 350 baht, which was relatively expensive. It was a long but pleasant walk to some of the nearby restaurants.
SUMMARY - A great value with a quiet beach in front of the hotel to get away from it all. Very relaxing experience and sitting on the quiet beach reminded me of being on a camping trip. Don't go if you want an extensive selection of restaurants or noisy nightly entertainment. DO GO to relax, stroll on the beach and watch the stars at night. Next time, I'd like to bring my family. I would definitely stay at the Nice Beach Hotel again.
