The Ananda Museum Gallery Hotel is a nice addition to Sukhothai where the standard of hotels has not been very high. I've been to Sukhothai several times and, in the past, found that I had to choose between large, characterless properties and those that made valiant efforts at being unique, boutique hotels but didn't really meet the mark. The Asian Millenium Modern-styled architecture and decor of the Ananda set it apart from everything else in the city. The lobby is particularly appealing.
My only complaints are that the rooms could use brighter lighting and the key cards didn't work. Not only do the wall sconces shed rather meagre light, there are no reading lamps, only a decorative cylinder lamp. My party booked three double rooms and no one's key card worked. We noticed other guests had the same problems getting into their rooms.
The restaurant served decent food. We had breakfast both days we were there and dinner once. At dinner, although there was only one other table, our food did not arrive simultaneously, however, and several in our party didn't receive their meals until almost forty-five minutes after the first meals arrived. The second night we were there, we chose to eat out. Breakfast was not such a problem. The kitchen seemed to be better prepared.
I would go back to the Ananda but would think twice about having a meal other than breakfast.
