The zoo also owns the Monarto Zoological Park. The Adelaide Zoo is part and parcel of the heritage and social history of South Australia. This singular Australian Zoo has held back many original and substantial architectural features giving it a unique style and character. The major thrust of the zoo is on endangered species and rare animals from countries like South America, India, Africa and Australia and also South East Asia together of which has formed the continent Gondwana. The similarity in the Zoology and Botany of these continents with the regions are exhibited here. You will find the South East Asian Rainforest, Seal Bay, Australian Rainforest Wetlands walk-through aviary, Africa, South America, India, Nocturnal House and Reptile House. The Adelaide Zoo also houses a botanic garden. The intensive care and maintenance has resulted in the magnificent landscaping of the zoo. You will also discover many significant exotic Australian trees in the gardens, including a superb Moreton Bay Fig near Minchin House which was planted in 1877 before the establishment of the zoo. Many trees are represented with the botanic names which reflect on the changing role of the zoo.
