Carrick Hill
One of the most magnificent tourist attractions of Adelaide is Carrick Hill. Located in Springfield in Adelaide, this historic home attracts a large number of tourists with its beautiful gardens and fine architecture.Carrick Hill, Adelaide was built by Edward Hayward and his wife Ursula Barr Smith in the year 1930. It was built on the land presented to the couple by Ursula's father as their marriage present. The house is built according to the seventeenth century style and is surrounded by gardens and bushlands spread across 40 acres of land.
This fantastic structure was designed by a gentleman named James Irwin. The manor-style house was built between 1937 and1939. The house features a wide collection of Tudor architectural fittings. The staircase, oak paneling, doors and even the windows are those belonging to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that were collected by the couple during their honeymoon in England.
The walls of Carrick Hill in Adelaide are adorned with the paintings of a large number of famous British, Australian and French artists. You can beautiful paintings, porcelain statues, decorative articles made of silver and crystal. The manor features oak furniture, pewter light fittings and a large number of antiques. The garden in front of the house was personally developed and designed by Ursula Barr Smith. You can find a rose garden over here or take a look at the huge collection of rare varieties of trees and plants. The garden also has a pear walkway meant for leisurely strolls. You can get to see a large number of flowers over here like daffodils, belladonna lilies and others. Carrick Hill in Adelaide is a fine example of stylish and sophisticated living.
The premises and the garden of the Carrick Hill estate is used for a large number of coverts, theater shows and other performances. There is a tea pavilion over here where you can get refreshments. The estate also has a shop called the Carrick Hill Shop from where you can buy gift items, postcards and souvenirs at reasonable rates.
Carrick Hill in Adelaide is open for public viewing from 10 in the morning till 5 in the evening. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The estate has car parking facilities, toilets and medical facilities. Entry is not free. Adults have to pay $9, while for children the tickets are $6.50.
