National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame
First virtual Women's Museum and Research Centre in Australia is the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame, which is a national project devoted to preserving the position of women and their special contribution to the history and heritage of Australia. This museum comprises information about the hall of fame, plus history, exhibitions, projects, volunteers, testimonials and an online store. More than 100 Australian women, who were pioneers in their fields, are highlighted at this museum, which reveals their stories through photographs, artifacts and other memorabilia.In 1993, Molly Clark of Old Andado Station established the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame as one of the three women's museums working in Australia. The other two women's museums are; The Pioneer Women's Memorial Folk Museum, close to Brisbane and the Pioneer Women's Hut at Tumbarumba, NSW. The nature of these two museums are more local and rural than National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame.
From 1994, the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame was situated at the Old Alice Springs Courthouse but it will move to its new house at 2 Stuart Terrace, the Old Alice Springs Gaol in late 2006.
The National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame is continuously increase its collection of stories, photographs, artifacts and memorabilia linking to pioneering women, along with a reference library of books, video and audio cassettes linking to Australian women's history.
Built-in as a non-profit making organization, the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame accepts the significant and constant support received from the Northern Territory Government, the Federal Government, Tourism NT and many dedicated volunteers.
